I'll let her take a shot. Let's call the creatures A and B. Who shoots at which?

GM Note: I used the wrong damage last time for Revolver. It should be 2D, not 3D, based on the updated table in the house rules
Abigail's laser carbine lights up the cave, and blasts into the target. Sir John's revolver is like a thunderclap as he then blows its head off. Lady Marie wounds the other one with her shot. The creature coils up, then launches itself in a mighty leap from the ledge right at her face!
MECHANICS Abigail, Laser Carbine DM +1, Dex DM +2, Jack +2, Range +1, Final DM +6, rolls <2d6>=5+6=11 Abigail HITS for <4d6>=16, creature unconscious Sir John, Revolver DM +3, Dex DM +1, Jack +1, Range DM +2, Final DM +7, rolls <2d6>=5+7=12 Sir John HITS for <2d6>=8, creature dies Lady Marie, Auto Pistol DM +0, Dex DM +0, Jack +1, Range DM +2, Final DM +3, rolls <2d6>=5+3=8 Lady Marie HITS for <2d6>=4, wounding the creature

Push lady Marie out of the way or step in front of her .

Lady Marie will duck and roll and allow the troops to do their jobs.

Sir John shoots it in midair as it leaps while attempting to interpose himself between it and her. (Okay, maybe not that dramatic, but you see what I'm going for...)

OOC: In Traveller, all combat is supposed to be simultaneous, but I tend to resolve ranged combat before close combat. I am giving an arbitrary DM of -1 to hit the moving creature
Abigail and Sir John blast the ;last creature out of the air, and it falls with a thump at their feet
MECHANICS Abigail, Laser Carbine DM +1, Dex DM +2, Jack +2, Range +1, Difficulty -1, Final DM +5, rolls <2d6>=10+6=16 Abigail HITS for <4d6>=23, killing it Sir John, Revolver DM +3, Dex DM +1, Jack +1, Range DM +2, Difficulty -1, Final DM +6, rolls <2d6>=8+7=15 Sir John HITS for <2d6>=10, killing it

Abigail rushes over to Marci, and gets her medkit out. Ten minutes later, she is back at full health, and her suit has been repaired with KJalagard-brand sealing tape

I think we continue to explore, however, we should have Abigail or Sir John up front. Lady Marie's Hunting should also help, so she will be 2nd in line.

While the medical attention is being given, Sir John replaces the used rounds in his revolver. It doesn't do to have a partial load in these circumstances. But his hands are working on their own, as it were; his eyes never stop scanning their surroundings, looking for the next threat.
"What do we have for light?" he asks.

Lady Marie has a cold light lantern. She also has LI gogles, but they won't help in a cave.

You can pick up Marci's cold lantern that she dropped.

And actually, rereading all the threads, I think Marci wanted someone else to go first, holding a lantern, so she could devote her time to her scanner. So it might make sense for Abigail to go first with light in one hand and Autopistol in other hand, Marie with her Hunting expertise right behind, followed by Marci scanning and Sir John the rearguard?

Also, for geologists who care, this cave looks like a primary cave formation, a typical bubble cave in an ellipsoid form, where the inside widens out before ending in a rounded end, just larger than most.

...and Sir John the rearguard? Depends on whether we expect threats from the front or from the rear. Sir John is the most effective close-in fighter we have, with Cutlass - 2 and Revolver - 3 (and I have the advantageous dexterity for the revolver as well). So if the fight is going to be in front of us, I want to be up there where I can earn my pay and not be in the back as a spectator. Conversely, if the most likely threat is deemed to be from behind, then Rearguard it is.

One would think the front would be more dangerous. You might have to argue with Abigail

The cave itself isn't much deeper, and your search turns up no interesting minerals or features. Although you have many more caves to check, you feel thankful that they are probably not much bigger than this one

So, on to the next cave. Sir John leading, someone bringing the light right behind him.

By the way, keep an eye on the map, the time and the scale. All the reading I've done seems to show that foot travel in the jungle is only about 1 mile per hour. To make it easy, let's say 2 km/hr. The caves at the top of the cliffs might be better served by parking the air raft on top of the cliff (it flies above the canopy no problem) and rappelling down. The other option is rock-climbing up to them. You may also want o just check ground level caves on this sweep, and come back to the higher level caves. Let me know your thinking, and what cave to do next

Search all the lower caves first. Head left first when f facing this cave

You realize that to follow Abigail's suggestion (turn left while facing cliffs) brings you back to the waterfall and the scout ship. You want to continue that direction and check caves 3, 2 and 1? Or did you want to go the other way and check caves 5-12?
