Peng looks more closely at the lock . . . [OOC: If these are standard shipping containers - and if they are anything like real world ones - the lock is a couple of plates which are hinged to wrap around the door-latching levers and then be secured with an ordinary padlock. I worked as a long-haul trucker for several months, so I sorta know about shipping containers. ]

The neighboring container is cold and still. There is no vibration coming from this one. "This container is almost certainly occupied," Takheal says. “Peng, we need someone to come down with a key. Whoever that is, could you call them now?” Charlie

The doors fold in and out, accordion doors is what they are. This allows them to be opened in tight spaces...like inside the hold of a cargo ship. The lock is built into one of the two accordion doors that meet in the middle of the container's side. It is flimsy and standard, one key unlocks all of them. It isn't really up to your standards, but that's on the owners, not you folks. The impression you have is that Delgado intends to use the containers for storage/extra space after they unload the Modules inside. The Modules are the bases they are setting up on the worlds along the Main.

Peng knows, from experience, that the point of a knife or screwdriver could be shoved into one of these locks and it would pop open.

"This container is almost certainly occupied," Takheal says. “Peng, we need someone to come down with a key. Whoever that is, could you call them now?” Peng stands back upright from squinting at the lock and replies in an off-hand tone: "Got no idea who to call, 'cept maybe Raven . . ."As he speaks, the gunner casually returns his oversized revolver to it's shoulder holster, then reaches behind his back and an instant later produces his Blade. Waggling this from side to side in a shoeing motion, he continues: "But if y'all move aside, I'll pop this pansy lock in a jif."Unless actively stopped, Peng steps forward, sticks the point of his weapon into the cheap lock and with a twist of his wrist pops it open.

True to his word, the lock pops open easily. Clearly anyone with a knife, screwdriver, or anything thin could pop these locks. All of you think about that...

Charlie brings up his pistol and backs Peng and his play. Takheal steps out of Charlie's line of fire and waits to see who, or what, is in the container. OOC: I'm going to say that Peng folds one of the doors back exposing what is inside... Looking inside you see the front end of a standard 10 ton module, like the kind carried around be a modular cutter. The inside of the container is not supposed to be lighted, but you can see a little glow from the left side and can clearly hear a humming sound. You are familiar with what a power plant sounds like. This module is clearly "on", and probably occuiped. The module is sitting in a cradle leaving room on the left side for a person to walk down to the hatch there...that's where the light is coming from.

Tokheletoi steps back a meter or two and readies her pistol. She starts to speak as Peng goes to jimmy the lock but stops and watches warily instead. She looks over to Takheal as he moves to the side and nods. "It looks like we have a visitor ready for a long stay." She sniffs a bit to see if the same scent is present.

Peng switches back to his pistol, as with his other hand he pulls on his breather mask. Nudging Charles, Peng points at his mask, then at his underbarrel grenade tube. He will only speak if Charles doesn't pick up on his meaning. Peng is perfectly content to allow Charles to keep point.

With Peng behind him, he kept edging in to see who or what he could find, weapon ready. Charlie

Peng follows Charles, trying his best to keep a good sight picture on the open doorway, just in case a tear gas grenade proves advisable prior to their actual arrival at the threshold.

OOG: Advice for a newbie, please. Cyril ought to be sweeping the upper deck for intruders, but that would mean interacting with Blackjack, Raven and Doc, who are in Limbo right now because their players aren't here. There must be game protocols for this, but I'm pretty clueless.

There must be game protocols for this, but I'm pretty clueless. OOG: Go ahead and go for it! As it stands, Blackjack and Doc are pure NPC's now and seeing as Mighty Darcy hasn't posted in a 'coon's age' Raven might as well be an NPC. I'll be the one Cyril is interacting with in all cases...unless Mighty Darcy shows back up. BTW, Ebon Hearted Soul hasn't been around, in this game, and it appears he's having lots of problems in his personal life, so I'll have to NPC Emiya...and Gil! <sigh> I think we have a lot more NPC's than PC's at the moment: Tak and Tol, Chariie, Peng and Cyril are active, but Raven, Emiya and Gil are not...and Blackjack, Madame Cho, Doctor Vargas, Sir Baltus, and the other passengers have been NPC's either from the beginning are almost that long. Well, Blackjack and Madame Cho are leaving the game soon when he turns the ship over to the remaining crew, and Sir Baltus and the other passengers are being dropped off (one at a time) at each system you stop at from here to Mantan, so they will be decreasing. OTOH, we have 3 roles being NPC'ed that really need PC's though: Captain/Pilot (Raven), Engineer (Blackjack) and Doctor (Vargas).

OOC: It is a very narrow alley down the side of the Module, so I'm going to say the "order of march" is single file and will be... IG: Charlie leads the way, followed by Peng with Tol and then Tak behind the two humans. Charlie sees the hatch to the Module is cracked open, not closed properly, and that is where the light is coming from. Edging forward cautiously he peeks in through the light opening in the hatch and sees airlock is empty and the hatch on the inside is completely open. Continuing to edge forward Charlie enters the air lock and peeks inside. The interior of the Module is lighted and Charlie can see some of the controls, they are on. He doesn't see or hear any movement inside. Both Tol and Tak can smell the same scent they picked up earlier, it is clearly the same being. They also notice what looks and smells like blood droplets on the floor of the container going down toward the Module's hatch.

Peng moves in, trying to keep a good sight picture toward the furthest visible portion of the interior as he moves . . .
[OOC: If the Aslan are getting scent traces from the interior, then there is at least a minimal breeze flowing out (likely from air pressure differential). Peng wants to be able to loft his gas shell as far inside as possible, so that the resulting small cloud won't get completely blown away from any occupants before it can take effect.]

Tokheletoi glances at Takheal as her nostrils flare. She nods, her head gesturing at the blood and the scent. She moved along with the others at the rear knowing that she was not a warrior.
"Blood trail, and the same scent," she whispered to the others.

Charlie moves ahead and left, Peng flanks him moving right, the two Aslan come in backing up the two humans.
Charlie sees a booted foot lying on the floor with the rest of the body behind a partition. The booted foot doesn't look human...
Moving up toward the partition, both Charlie and Tak behind him see a being lying on the floor in a pool of blood. This is a Vargr or ,at least, looks much like a Vargr.
The creature is wearing a tattered shirt with a large blood stain on the front. Its trousers are just as tattered and blood stained. The guy looks like he has been severely beaten along with being wounded, pretty, seriously.
The Vargr is still breathing, but appears to be unconscious. A long screwdriver is lying on the deck next to the his body.

OOC: A call is coming into the ship while the crew is discovering the Vargr in the cargo hold. I think the only PC not there is Cyril, so I'm going to say Oscar needs to handle it....
Up on the bridge a call comes in from a ship identified as the Main Chance. The ship is identified as being grounded here on in the Starport. It is listed as a 400 dton Merchant ship registered out of Uruguay, Mantan Sub-Sector. None of you know much of anything about Uruguay, it's out beyond Mantan, very deep in the sub-sector you are setting out to explore.
The voice on the call is speaking in heavily accented Galanglic, not an accent you are familiar with.
"Hi-lo Clar Sells. This Keptan Kant of Mon Chonce. Jest want tell yu a dangerous animal is escaped from its cage and is loose about this Stirpurt. If apon it you come carefully let me ship know and ve veal catch. This you understand? Is hurt, so is extra dangerous, yes?" you are told.

Peng holsters his weapon and steps as much out of the way as he can. When Accented Keptan comes over the comm, he hawks up a big loogie and spits it into a dark corner, then opines:
"I figure El Kup-Tin for a slaver. If this fellow wakes up, I 'spect he'll agree."
Looking around to gauge the mood of the others, Peng raises one eyebrow and continues:
"How 'bout we tell Kup-Tin we've got his 'animal,' then when he and his get close, I 'accidentally' discharge the belly turret?"

He hands his pistol to Peng so that the Vargr can’t take it from him and looks to staunch the bleeding with his own shirt. He’ll do his best to assess how bad they are, though he has no skill, until the doc arrives. Charlie

Peng takes the pistol, sets it on "Safe" and then holds it loosely by the barrel in his off-hand, instantly ready to hand it back to Charlie should this prove adviseable. In response to the Aslan's very sensible comment about the unwisdom of discharging a laser cannon while grounded, Peng nods sagely in apparent agreement.
But then he sucks his teeth and adds in an off-hand tone: "Mind you, I'm not sayin' we shoot AT Kup-Tin an' his bunch. Lordy, no. The bolt'd go through them like they was paper then carry on to do all sorts of costly damage downrange."
Peng smiles a cruel little smile and continues: "But seein' as our turrets are mounted right above our forward airlocks, if we just happen to be conductin' maintenance with the business end of the guns pointed straight down at the tarmac, one of 'em might just 'accidentally' discharge as Kup-Tin and Compan' are passin' by on the way in . . ."
Peng's cruel little smile gets bigger and crueler: "The concussion from the bolt's impact with the ground should knock 'em plumb silly. But us being inside with the airlock door mostly shut, we'll be just peachy. We saunter out, gather 'em up and stick in the low berths. Maybe with a dose of Fast each, to make sure they don't cause trouble on the way there. When the yard boys show, we 'pologize and pay th' fine, o' course. If they ask about Kup-Tin, we just shake our heads and shrug."
The smile becomes a sharklike grin: "Then we load this fellow here on a gurney and show up at Kup-Tin's ship. We say Kup-Tin and his bunch are havin' a party with our own captain, but us poor sods were sent back over with the cargo. If Lady Luck takes a shine to us, the rest of his bunch'll pile forth - not wanting to miss out on any fun - and . . ."
Peng wiggles the fingers of his free hand like he's a wizard casting a spell and adds in a comical eyebrow waggle for good measure: ". . . POOF! We've got a free ship."
Such a long speech being almost like work, Peng looks a little surprised at his own verbosity, closing with a surly and somewhat petulant, "I mean, it's not like nobody's gonna miss a f***ing slaver, here or there."

Tokheletoi nods to Takheal in agreement and backs out to the walkway outside the container. "Let us heal the Vargr and understand his story before we reveal our hand. There may be more at work here than just slaving. Surely this captain would not call a sophont an 'animal'." She looked to Takheal. "I will go up to the bridge and research more about this Keptan Kant of Mon Chonce. We should know with whom we are dealing first."
