Peng takes the pistol, sets it on "Safe" and then holds it loosely by the barrel in his off-hand, instantly ready to hand it back to Charlie should this prove adviseable. In response to the Aslan's very sensible comment about the unwisdom of discharging a laser cannon while grounded, Peng nods sagely in apparent agreement. But then he sucks his teeth and adds in an off-hand tone: "Mind you, I'm not sayin' we shoot AT Kup-Tin an' his bunch. Lordy, no. The bolt'd go through them like they was paper then carry on to do all sorts of costly damage downrange."Peng smiles a cruel little smile and continues: "But seein' as our turrets are mounted right above our forward airlocks, if we just happen to be conductin' maintenance with the business end of the guns pointed straight down at the tarmac, one of 'em might just 'accidentally' discharge as Kup-Tin and Compan' are passin' by on the way in . . ."Peng's cruel little smile gets bigger and crueler: "The concussion from the bolt's impact with the ground should knock 'em plumb silly. But us being inside with the airlock door mostly shut, we'll be just peachy. We saunter out, gather 'em up and stick in the low berths. Maybe with a dose of Fast each, to make sure they don't cause trouble on the way there. When the yard boys show, we 'pologize and pay th' fine, o' course. If they ask about Kup-Tin, we just shake our heads and shrug."The smile becomes a sharklike grin: "Then we load this fellow here on a gurney and show up at Kup-Tin's ship. We say Kup-Tin and his bunch are havin' a party with our own captain, but us poor sods were sent back over with the cargo. If Lady Luck takes a shine to us, the rest of his bunch'll pile forth - not wanting to miss out on any fun - and . . ."Peng wiggles the fingers of his free hand like he's a wizard casting a spell and adds in a comical eyebrow waggle for good measure: ". . . POOF! We've got a free ship."Such a long speech being almost like work, Peng looks a little surprised at his own verbosity, closing with a surly and somewhat petulant, "I mean, it's not like nobody's gonna miss a f****ing slaver, here or there."“That’s above my pay grade,” Charlie said as he worked. “Seems like too many assumptions that things will work out in our favor, though. We need to have more info. Maybe this guy can give us some when Doc gets him patched up.” Charlie

Charlie moves ahead and left, Peng flanks him moving right, the two Aslan come in backing up the two humans. Charlie sees a booted foot lying on the floor with the rest of the body behind a partition. The booted foot doesn't look human... Moving up toward the partition, both Charlie and Tak behind him see a being lying on the floor in a pool of blood. This is a Vargr or ,at least, looks much like a Vargr. The creature is wearing a tattered shirt with a large blood stain on the front. Its trousers are just as tattered and blood stained. The guy looks like he has been severely beaten along with being wounded, pretty, seriously. The Vargr is still breathing, but appears to be unconscious. A long screwdriver is lying on the deck next to the his body. “Oh crap!” Charlie said, holstering his pistol and kicking the screwdriver away from the person. “We need the doctor.” He hit his com. “Doc, we have a badly hurt intruder in the cargo bay. Beaten and bleeding. Hurry!” “Anybody know more about first aid than me? I hope so.” Charlie Doctor Vargas comms back, "On my way!" then he says to Oscar, "Keep an ear to the comms while I'm gone, okay?"

Peng shrugs and remains silent. OOC: LOL! That won't last! Doc Vargas arrives and takes over... He kneels over the Vargr and says, "These are gunshot wounds! YOU didn't shoot him did you?" After working a short while, Vargas says to Peng, "Bring me the gurney from the Utility Closet over there.", pointing at a door with 'Utility Closet' printed on it. Sure enough there is a folded gurney stored behind that door. "I think I got to him in time." Vargas says as you get the Vargr onto the gurney, "I'll slap him into the Autodoc as soon as we get him to Sickbay and we'll see." All that is done and Vargas nods after looking at the numbers displaying on the Autodoc, "Yeah, the bullets didn't hit anything critical, he was just low on blood and getting shocky. Give the AD a couple of days to work and he'll be up and available for light duty, or to turn over to the Authorities."

Tokheletoi nods to Takheal in agreement and backs out to the walkway outside the container. "Let us heal the Vargr and understand his story before we reveal our hand. There may be more at work here than just slaving. Surely this captain would not call a sophont an 'animal'." She looked to Takheal. "I will go up to the bridge and research more about this Keptan Kant of Mon Chonce. We should know with whom we are dealing first." Tol and Tak discover that the Main Chance is the name of the ship, and it is listed as being out of Uruguay. You can't find anything more on the ship and the Uruguay system is way out past Maintain. Nothing is known about Uruguay other than that it as a Starport that would be classified as B level, and that might or might not be accurate.

"No. He arrived like that." "Now what? Do we call someone at the port? With someone hunting him, that might be chancy." Charlie

Remember you have several of those modules in cargo and several Delgado Trading passengers that are disembarking at each of the systems from here to Mantan. Also on the down low, Gil and Peng (I'm saying he brought you in on this) have a "package" to deliver to an address in the city on the mainland. No delivery, no get paid! That's why they were looking up passages to the mainland for a quick trip over there. OOG: I was hoping to get someone to come in and PC the wounded Vargr, but that hasn't happened. He has Engineering skill and was going to replace Blackjack when that character leaves.

Peng lets the query about whether or not he shot the Vargr slide past unchallenged . . .
[Internal Thought]O' course I di-dunt shoot 'm. He's still breathin', ain't he?[End Internal Thought]
. . . as he helps get the injured sophont to medical.
Perusing the scant info on Uruguay, Peng mutters, "Class B, eh? I'm willing to be it's a chop shop. Ships go in, but don't come back out 'cept as parts of different ones."

By your comment here, I assume that Cyril does not - as has been speculated in the OOG thread - have Engineering, then?] So, nope. I'd be okay with anyof the PC's adding 1 level of Engineering. Converting one of Ping's JOAT's to Engineering would work really well, though, as the way I'm running JOAT is that it gives a Level 0 at any skill the PC tries where he doesn't already have a skill level. Having a 2nd JOAT doesn't help you...actually, it might be a good idea to just say if you get JOAT skills over 1, the player can just pick one skill he doesn't have to be Level 1 to replace that JOAT.

Tokheletoi nods to Takheal as he spoke up. "I do not favor starting a battle here in the starport. The slaver is detestable but there is more loss than profit to be gained by fighting him. Let us unload our cargo and passengers, seek other cargo or passengers as well and attend to our errands while the Vargr heals a bit. Once he regains consciousness we may be able to use his testimony to bring the force of law against this outlaw."
OOC: A level of Engineering is not a bad idea.

I am watching outside the ship with the external cameras in case the slavers come calling."

I can't change your footer, though, that you'll have to do for yourself. Peng climbs into "his" [e.g. the starboard side] turret and readies it for lift. Once this is done, he also checks the remote linkage system that allows him to slave the port side turret to his control - in the event that nobody actually mans it - then calls the bridge: "Peng here. Weapons ready for lift. Capacitors not - repeat NOT - charged. No sense makin' the locals nervous, eh?"

OOC: Sorry. I'm very fatigued lately. I'm having a hard time keeping track. Peng checks out the turret controls and decides they are 'A-OK', then shuts them down and moseys onto the Bridge. It is time for the group to head over to the local dock to catch that shuttle to the mainland. He has them signed up to stay at a local Bed and Breakfast for the night. He figures he and Gilroy can head over to the address Gil gave him to deliver that package and pick up the payment and still have time to see if there are any interesting sights to see over there before dinner time. Peng knows that both Aslan, Charlie, Cyril have said they are going along, so he only booked 6 for the trip over and the B&B. The rest of the crew can babysit the ship and that Vargr while the six of you do a little sightseeing, and in the case of Peng and Gil make a little money

NPC: Cyril appears on the bridge dressed to make the trip over to the mainland, joining Tak and Tol, Charlie and Peng. Don't forget your face masks/filters!
OOC: A quick trip to the mainland to "make the 'small-package' delivery" will earn you bit of cash and put you in position to meet some locals, visit some places, that provide some interesting opportunities for adventure.

Cyril finds this in the ship's Library program: Shiralea (C-996424-5 ) - C There is a Routine quality starport, with unrefined fuel, and a maintenance capable yard.
- 9 Shiralea is around 14,400 kilometers diameter.
- 9 Shiralea has a dense atmosphere (1.25 to 2 barr) with a taint is present; a filter or PLSS is required.
- 6 There is between 55% and 65% open water or ice on the surface.
- 4 Total population is between 10,000 and 100,000.
- 2 The locals have a participatory democracy.
- 4 Light assault weapons, machine guns, automatic rifles, portable energy weapons, body pistols, explosives, and poison gas prohibited.
- 5 Technology is comparable to 1900 to 1939 CE on Earth. Mass production, early automobiles, early flight.

Tokheletoi as well brings along a pistol to carry in a concealed holster. "We should arrange debarkation of our cargo and passenger before we head off away from the ship. Let me make the arrangements and those staying behind can oversee the movement of the cargo."
OOC: She'll contact the local factor and see about pick up of the container and debarkation of the passenger.
