One thing this mini shows is how limited my visual imagination is. When I thought of the Bone Guardian, all I could imagine was a beefy skeleton. Now I see this cool mini, and I realize it can be clothed and look like a paladin or a wizard or farmer or anything else! The possibilities are that much more awesomely numerous! That's partly due to my description in the monster entry. I did want something that would blend in with the crowd of skeletons BUT I have broadened that to something a little more dramatic now. The unobservant character might not realize it upon first sight, but somewhat seasoned adventurers will notice the difference. This came about by accident. I couldn't find a skeleton mini that was basically "the same but different" by being a bit beefier. I stumbled upon this "Crypt Guardian" figure and that's when it clicked as far as visual representation goes. Another thing that sealed the deal for me is enemy representation in video games like Diablo. They'll never scratch the same itch as D&D for me but one thing that series gets right is making the seasoned, advanced, or boss monsters looks different from the stand run of the mill monster.

I just completed a mimic miniature earlier today. It's actually called a "mocking beast" because it's a Reaper Bones version. I'm pretty happy with the results. Here are all three options - a closed chest, an open chest with gold, and a mimic.

I completed my first Kobold miniature earlier today. I have 5 more of them to paint and I still need a bit more practice with the tiny figures, but it will definitely work for gaming purposes. I have a few more brushes of smaller size to break out and work with so we'll see how it goes in the future.

I have some Goblins (6) that I've been sitting on for a while. I started painting them before I bought my house a year and a half ago. I had only painted the skin areas of the miniatures and they have been staring at me for completion ever since I moved in and set up my paint and miniatures. I decided to pull one out to complete this last week, but I wasn't happy with the results. I decided to paint another one to see how it turned out. I wasn't quite satisfied with it either, so I painted another one. That's 3 painted miniatures with unsatisfactory results. I put a wash on them, and I do sort of like the results better. This morning I put a sealer on them and I'm waiting for that to dry. Here is where I'm at right now. As you can see, the miniatures look wet because they are waiting to dry. These Goblins have not been fun to paint. They were cast extra skinny to have something like a starved look to them. The paint never seemed to work the way I was expecting on these three miniatures. It was a very frustrating experience and I'm not sure I'm going to post these as part of my Miniature Mondays series at my blog. I'm going to see how they look after the sealer dries and decide at that time. Maybe I'm overthinking it or just being overly critical due to my frustration.

And now I have a Mind Flayer for my miniature collection. I've been sitting on this one for a while because I thought it would be much more difficult but once I got started, I discovered that it wasn't as difficult as I had believed.

I finished the Naga I was using the Vallejo Xpress Color paints for most of the areas. Here's what it looks like compared to the previously painted Naga with standard acrylic paint.

I've been meaning to paint this Grave Wraith miniature for over a month and I did it on this 4-day weekend. I started by opening the miniature, scrubbing it down with dish soap, and attaching it to a base. Then I put on the main color taking inspiration from Skeletor. Then I put some black in the face area of the hood and a few other open areas.

That last one looks super cool. Nice work, thanks for posting it. Thanks, hengest! I think I'm finally starting to learn that it isn't complete UNTIL it's complete and that's where my work will look best - AFTER a wash and seal - so I don't sweat the process as much as I did in the past.

The Gigantic Spiders turned out great even though they were just cheap Halloween decorations. This one was done with the standard acrylic paint. This one was done with speed paint. Now, I need to paint up the standard sized Giant Spiders. I wanted something Shelob sized along with smaller ones. Going good so far...

Three more pictures of spiders. These are the 3 standard sized Giant Spiders. Here's a Gargantuan sized Spider next to a Giant Spider. Finally, I threw in a skeleton figure to show the comparison in size to a man-sized figure. I have one more piece dealing with Spiders but I'm not revealing what it is until I see how it looks...

I finished the moongate because I stopped at Hobby Lobby to see if they had any scenery options. I was pleasantly surprised that there were several. I don't know why I didn't think of that before - they DO sell trains and scenery - but I'm glad I looked. I'm not winning any awards with this, but it will be able to be used for effect in game. That's the whole point of my miniatures anyway so I'm good with it. I would do some things differently if I did another one, but it was a good learning experience.
