Captain de Graff speaks, " We are all agreed then that our ship Captain is Charles Lin and that all those who remain are all in on this mission. We will also need to have a chain of command for the ship and decide on the leader for the away team and its chain of command. We only have a short time before the RNI folk come back for our decision, so that will have to wait. But I will assist Captain Lin enthusiastically in preparing for this mission. So if anyone has ideas for things we need to ask for, now is the time to do it. We should be as well equipped as practical and once we have the ship, I recommend that we all go over her with a fine toothed comb and make sure that everything is on the green. I think we have a group here that should, once we know each other better function like a well oiled machine." "My thanks for your support. We'll talk on the ship side and make sure we have everything in the green and all positions covered.
"Peng's thoughts on a drop ship are valid and he's put time into modifying our launch, but a real drop ship would be better. Other than that, we won't know what problems or needs we have until we actually examine the ship."

Colonel Berger says, "One thing that occurred to me is that we need to allow room in quarters for the Delgado people that will be going with us and looking over the ship, crew and proposed troops over, I am not sure we have room for them. I am an Army man and used to tight quarters when needed, but I have not managed a ship, that has always been the province of the Navy, so can someone speak to that in the time we have left? Before those RNI folks come back." OOC: I've forgotten how many Delgado passengers we have. I think their cargo will fit into the hold space we have, but they might be double bunking with the rest of us. Eris?

I think their cargo will fit into the hold space we have, but they might be double bunking with the rest of us. Eris? OOC: It wasn't made really clear, but the Delgado folks were not planning on going back with you. If you'd like to suggest they do, then, they can be housed in the 10 dton modules you would be delivering to the different systems. You would have to allocate 60 tons of cargo space for the modules and you'd be committed to doing stops at the following worlds: Eklake, Poughkeepsie, Ronan, Eldeann, Tyler, and Mantan to deliver the modules and personnel. If the modules/personnel are housed in the hold, they could be kept isolated from the rest of the ship and self-contained as the modules themselves provide power/water/food/air-purification/quarters/etc.
You have 90 dtons of hold space. A ship's boat/launch *can* be attached to the dorsal surface so that doesn't take up the hold. If you allocated 60 for the modules and 8 for two armored grav craft, you'd have 22 tons of space for the Trooper's common room and training area. That could be expanded (by moving a wall) to 30+ for trooper use once you drop off one module. After the 2nd module is dropped off you'd start to gain some cargo space, too. What this would do, though, is prevent you from carrying much in the way of "replacement parts or extra supplies" with you, at least at the start. Think it over, do you want to take the Delgado modules/people with you?

Without them, we're free to chase leads and not be locked into a charted course. I say without them, but if everyone else feels differently, I'll go with the majority.

We’ll have to carry cargo and maybe have a nest egg until we can find a pirate to privateer. We won’t be able to pay the way with cargo though. “Maybe a military subsidy is what we need to start, but any prizes we send back should earn the ship and company something. I suspect they’ll lay out what they’re willing to offer shortly.”

I suspect they’ll lay out what they’re willing to offer shortly.” "I expect that the RNI folks will clear all of that up." Captain de Graff continued, "Of course, our shared ownership of the ship is part of our compensation, and all of the startup supplies, fuel, etc will go with that. We will likely get salvage on any pirate vessels that we can bring back intact and likely bonuses as we make a dent in piracy. I would think that maintenance, repairs and fuel will be part of the package and we will have cargo's provided as part of the bait. But as Captain Lin points out, we can't carry enough cargo to fund all of the personnel we will have, so this will have to be subsided by the military. Certainly the troops will be paid by them, that would make sense."
"We will earn our money by making a serious dent in the piracy, then more trade will make it through which means more tax revenues. Also do not forget that we are paving the way for expansion of the Romanian governments territory, our part in that will be richly rewarded IMO and it will make trade boom. Who knows we might find a habitable world or two that are heretofore unknown. I think our chances of rich rewards are excellent, we just have to stay alive in the doing."

Peng calms down fairly quickly, especially after Charlie points out that his work will be of use in helping to secure a better class of carried craft. But in response to Charlie's "offer" to let him lead the small craft negotiations, Peng snorts out a laugh and replies, "Yeah, THAT'll go over well. Most of these RNI folk seem upper crusty . . ."Peng pauses to take a look around the table at all the spiffy uniforms and near-uniforms, then continues, "As do the rest of ya'll, frankly. Making ME the spokesman on anythin' ain't likely to help much."OOC: Considering we're planning on being bait for attack, it might not be the best idea to have them in danger. OOC: I'm also in favor of the fewer non-crew, the better. Anyway, isn't planting factors/factories the reason Delgado is keeping and appropriately re-crewing the Sales? Also, while Peng technically has Social Standing 9 (Upper Middle Class), it's been a long time since he actually thought of himself as such. Too much time spent with lower-class folk in various startown dives, don't you know?

OOC: I believe that the Clear Sails is going to the other side of the Romanian territory away from the Delgado route, re the comment of her being too hot to revisit that area. Delgado gets a new ship to ride along on, while we on a separate ship go hunt pirates. If we do our job right, they will be too busy to care about the Delgado mission.

In this specific case, I expect that the first couple of encounters will go our way, but after that the pirates will start trying to turn the tables and set up traps for us. I can imagine a scenario where a captured pirate's cargo turns out to be very substantial quantity of high explosives . . . rigged to detonate upon the ship's capture by Upper Management, without the knowledge of the low-level pirates actually crewing said ship. Sacrificing a single ship and crew to permanently remove an effective opponent sounds like an exchange cold-blooded criminal bosses would happily make.

Then looking around, "does anyone else have any input before they come back?"“I think you’re right.” If no one has anything significant to add, Charlie will go for the door they went through, open it, and see if he can tell someone that they’re ready.

Cyril is worried. "While we're talking about crewing, how are we going to handle prize crews? If we take a ship we either have to scuttle it or put a crew aboard. Do we have spare people with the skills we need to run a second or third ship? Along the same line, how are we going to handle prisoners?"
OOC: If we have player characters separated by parsecs and completely out of touch with each other, do we fork another campaign or what?

If we move in tandem, we can likely get the ships moved but there are limits. Our hosts will have to tell us what they expect. As for probers, we have a pile of low berths.”

Charlie opens the door at the back of the room to find Samantha sitting there reading something on a comm.
She looks up and says, "Are you ready for us?"
She taps on her comm and then speaks into it, "Sir, they are ready for us?"
"Three minutes." she says to Charlie.

As the discussion about prize ships is going on, Captain James Howard and Lt. Commander Clower come back through the door. The talk stops while everyone turns their attention to the two officers. You notice Samantha has not re-entered the room with the two higher ranking officers.
Howard looks around "Well, it looks like almost all of you are still here. Does that mean all remaining accept the mission?"
Lt Commander Clower starts passing around a comm to each of you, "We will need both your verbal agreement, signature and retina scan to confirm it before we can continue."
Once all of that is, done Howard says, "Good! I have more to tell you, but I'll hold that and answer questions you may have about the mission and the ship first."
OOC: So, what do you want to know.
