I am curious about the assertion that old school gamer's are more creative. I have always used ,for DM, "Dungeon Mediocre" I found about 70% of games forgettable. This came from my early years of gaming when I attended a lot of cons. Now a really good argument could be that the reason these DMs were running at a con was that they had no home game. Admittedly I have very little experience with gamers outside my circle of friends since 1995, further back than that during the days of playing w a drunk group, who could tell? So what am I missing? I have always found here to be helpful, so, What am I missing? mao, from reading the forum here for quite a while, I think the problem is that you have been playing with DMs and should have been playing with Refs. My take from reading the forum is that Refs are the hard core old school guys, where DMs range from kinda, sorta, maybe old school to the hardest of the hard core new school. If I understand several of the oldest Refs on here, anything after OD&D is not entirely old school and anything Gygax said after about mid 1976 is more likely to be focused on making money, than on promoting old school gaming. If you have found DM to be "Dungeon Mediocre" it just means, seems to me, that they were just not old school regardless of what they claimed.

Now these days, I would not speak first to a woman I did not know for anything, I would not compliment a stranger for any reason. It is just not safe to do. I would hesitate and be very cautious about even smiling at a woman I did not already know. I will be 20 in a couple of months and high school taught me to avoid girls/women, it is just not worth the trouble and now as an adult I agree you never speak to women if you can avoid it, you never, ever give compliments and on the street the best course of action is to pretend women do not exist and ignore them completely. Don't smile and keep a sober neutral look on your face at all times. I have seen too many guys get shamed for smiling and saying, "Hi."

I do no not think that is the problem as I played will 5-7 "refs" before the players hand book and they all sucked so much.
