Confession time, I tried to bump the thread titled Celebrating Dates With Blog Posts and I accidentally deleted it. I am trying to get used to the software and I messed this one up. Fortunately, I hope, I have read it quite a few times so I am reproducing it here as best I can. My apologies, I am trying to be careful, but my inexperience has bitten me a few times.
The proposal was for as many of us as possible to publish blog posts (and we could extend that to forum threads) celebrating landmark dates concerning the people and events in the history of D&D. So here as best I can remember.
Annual posting
Publication of OD&D in January 1974 starting January 2021 OD&D is 47 years old.
01. Celebrate the whole month of January 2019 for the 45th birthday of OD&D with as many good focused posts that we can muster and then continue on an annual basis.
.........International Original Dungeons & Dragons Month.....
02. Arbitrarily select Saturday January 25th, 2019 as OD&D day and everyone post on that date, even if that is the only day that you can post on OD&D for the whole month.
.........International Original Dungeons & Dragons Day.....
03. Celebrate March 15th each year as OD&D Inspirational Author Day and write about the author or authors that inspire you the most.
04. Celebrate World Storytelling Day on the equinox. World Storytelling Day is a global celebration, where individual storytelling events across the world coordinate on a shared theme. Annually, it takes place around the equinox, so approximately March 20 or 21 every year.
05. Celebrate April 17th each year as * Blackmoor Campaign Day and write about the beginning of Blackmoor.
06. Celebrate May 18th to May 24th as Arduin Week
07. Celebrate May 25th each year as Dave Hargrave Day (Arduin)
08. Celebrate July 27th as Gary Gygax Day
09. Celebrate September 24th through October 1st as Blackmoor Week
10. Celebrate October 1st as Dave Arneson Game Day
11. Celebrate December 26th as Blackmoor Campaign Creation Day. It is well established by statements by Arneson and by his players that Blackmoor started over the Christmas break in 1970. The 26th of December was a Saturday in 1970. It could have been any day during the Christmas break, but for convenience will we pick the Saturday date.
That is everything I can remember. If I missed any important dates please remind me and I will update this post. I think we have it now, but please let me know if there is something we have missed. But I think this is a good slate to work with.
Everyone who has a blog and is willing to commit to posting for these events on their blog please post in this thread to let us know that you are in. I do not have a blog myself, so I am committing to the forum itself and to posting links in a thread here for each of these events.
*April 17th, 1970 is the first published date [Not the first Blackmoor game] of a Blackmoor game including a poker game under a troll's bridge. See the image at this link ruinsofmurkhill.proboards.com/post/36099/thread and so let's use that date as Blackmoor Campaign Day.
