She is still having a lot of itching, but has put several good nights of sleep back to back and hopefully she will soon be going out to a Rehab center for more physical therapy. Thank you all for the support, good wishes and prayers.

Great to hear that she is getting rest and here's hoping control of the itching soon follows. I would not wish that on anyone. Hope they find a good solution to that.

Hi folks, my wife went from Riverside Methodist Hospital into Wexner Rehabilitation yesterday for post-hospital physical therapy and occupational therapy. They have a dialysis unit on site, but the insurance company will not let her use it and so she goes 20 minutes away by transport to Fresenius Kidney Care Central Ohio East. I met her there and brought her breakfast since she usually eats it while she is doing dialysis. So I am home for a little bit and then will head back out. She lost a screw out of her glasses and the lens came out while they were cleaning her glasses this morning, so I am going to go get that taken care of and then meet her back at the rehab center after dialysis.

On Thursday this week I go to a consult with my Radiologist to talk about my upcoming radiation therapy and the schedule for it as my prostate cancer three and about 9 months after surgery has come back. One reason I opted for surgery was to avoid radiation, but now I have to go that route anyway. My father was tested regularly and they found his at 78 and my grandfather was never tested and his was discovered at 88. Me I got mine at 58 and I had a more aggressive cancer and I had surgery right away. I figured the odds were that I would get it but I figured late 70's that's doable, but to get it 20 years sooner was very rough and the side effects of the surgery were rough. The side effects of the radiation are greater and more widespread than the surgery. So far none of my dad's brothers have had it and so far my brothers are OK, but they are 7 and 10 years younger than I am.

Today is also my wife's 60th birthday. We had to postpone her party because of the hospital stay and all. But we still are going to have it and will schedule it as soon as she gets out of the rehab center. She has a ton of cards and has been getting a lot of visits the last few days and more to come today. She loves balloons so I am taking them in later after dialysis and also taking her in her favorite cheesecake. Tomorrow when there is less traffic in the room, I also get to take our dog into the rehab center to visit. (80 lb black lab/pit mix raised as a lap dog). (two of her friends have brought in potted flowers to)
OK I will not be online again for a while.

Good luck to you and your wife, PD!
NOTE: I just googled radiation treatments. There are apparently several new precision procedures that are said to reduce exposure of healthy tissue, but these are too new to have conclusive studies conducted on whether or not they actually cause fewer side effects. The only comprehensive study looking for such differences began just late last year.

Thank you to all who have posted. My wife is home from the hospital and the physical therapy center. The Insurance company has once again sent her home before she is physically ready to come home. We have filled out the paperwork for her to begin hospice as part of getting more help. We also found out from the social worker at the physical therapy center that the other people involved in my wife's treatment should have filed for her to go on Medicare in February of 2017(last year) and that she should have been on Medicare since June 1st of 2017. We were being told that she had to wait 30 months before she could go on Medicare, turns out if we had waited 30 months, that would have been a problem for us. So the paperwork is being done now for Medicare for my wife.
She is stronger than she was three weeks ago, but she is not as strong as she should be, we found out how we can get more rails and grab bars, so we are working on that.
I had my Cat Scan done and my cancer is back. I will eventually be doing 37 radiation treatments - five days a week until it is complete. They said I will probably need an extra hour of sleep plus a nap. I see no way possible for that to happen. If I can get 6 hours that is an extraordinarily good night.

My wife's birthday went really well, I got her favorite cheesecake and took her some every other day till it was gone. She had a ton of cards and visitors, many of the staff commented on it. We will be having a party for here before too long. Her older sister intends to do it up right.

Thank you! She is in dialysis right now so I hopped on for a moment. She is still carrying too much fluid especially in her legs, so they are talking about an extra session or two now and then to get rid of the excess fluid.

Been there with family, and that dialysis can really take the fluid off, no joke.

I get my first Soc Sec check on the 20th and they suggested I submit a financial aid application once I have received that.

Hey PD how are you and your wife doing? Prayers and positive vibes your way every day! Yesterday she was able to walk with a cane into dialysis instead of using a wheelchair for the first time since early January. She is gaining strength. Still having a lot of trouble keeping her phosphorus levels down and so she has a lot of itching. My cancer treatment is still on hold. Thank you for asking!

Best wishes to both of you! Good luck seems to be going around; my brother is also doing better, now that his blood sugar is under control. He had spent some while as an undiagnosed Diabetes Type 2 sufferer. By the time this was noticed, his sugar had gotten so high it was almost off the charts. A friend of mine was also recently diagnosed with it. But in her case, it was caught quickly enough that her doctor wants her to try losing weight and eating better, before he puts her on any medications. I offered to walk with her daily around her neighborhood, because exercising with a partner is a better way to actually do it . . . and I need to lose some weight as well!
