This is the OUT OF CHARACTER thread.
Here is where we express our genuine sorrows to each other when our characters drive our on-line buddy's character off the map!
Here is where I, the referee, will post announcements and declare where we are in terms of turns and phases of turns so that we are all on the same page.

TURN 1: Spring of the Year of the Heavenly King 990. Phase: NEGOTATION NEGOTIATION IS NOW OPEN! You have all received your PCs. I see no reason to hold the game back! Please feel free to begin negotiations. After I have posted the first "op ed" on the Christendom Crier, please have your PCs post at least one public announcement, statement, plea, or whatever, on the Crier as well. I am not sure how long these phases should last. It does not seem that we should need more than a week for negotiations. I will move to closing negotiations and requesting reinforcement orders by next weekend, unless it is clear from all of you that you are ready to move on. GAME ON!

Okay, folks, everything is up and running now. I've made my first "op ed" on the Christendom Crier. I've received one PM which represents negotiations between characters. Everyone please begin negotiations and please get at least one thing posted publicly on the Crier. Thanks!

I'll have my stuff ready to go soon. I suffered an unfortunate shoulder separation over the weekend and am a bit off due to the meds given to me.

...and my kids have been ill for a couple of days, so I haven't had the opportunity to get into the game quite yet. Quite ironic, come to think of it, since Pepin is called "the Unstoppable"...

Due to good questions I am already receiving I need to inform you that I am using suggestions from Tony Bath's rules to roll up some families for you guys.
Here is what you can all know so far:
All the female monarchs are widowed for various reasons.
Pepin and Aelfred are married with children.
Constans was betrothed for diplomatic reasons but the betrothal was called off before his accession.
As soon as I have more details I will fill you in more completely.

Well, that's the Python out of the way up-front, at least. Also, is that Gorice I spy in your icon? Marvellous.
Hope your shoulders and children are on the mend too, chaps.

Mr Darke, I love Constans' post over on the "Crier." I must say the "proclamation of peace" together with your own "aliens" icon is quite a hilarious juxtaposition! Thanks you all. I am already having fun.

Well, my kids are still ill, but I managed to put my first post in the Christendom Crier while they were sleeping! I predict interesting times to follow...

Von, no pressure on the rest of you guys (I really like y'all's icons (sorry for the local-dialect second-person-plural-possessive, I am a Texan, after all)), but I LOVE your icon for Red Catherine! Where did you find that? Is it an historical personage? Fantasy art? I exalt thee!

Why thank you. *is Exalted*
It's a painting called Father's Helm by Bulat Gilfanov. Not sure who's actually depicted (she's apparently Bulgarian), but I sensed something of a Saint Olga of Kiev vibe about Catherine - the time period's about right, the conversion to Christianity fits, and it doesn't take a massive twist to see her as retaining the throne for... her own reasons. You know what I mean.
While we're on the subject: Those masks are apparently called "Lichina" - an old Russian form of "face". According to the Orthodox tradition it was used to avoid the punishment from God for murder of other Christian man on the battlefield. It was a Lichina murderer - not the real man! (How brilliant's that?)

Well, thanks Von, I guess we'll see about that... I strongly suspect this game will shortly evolve into Backstabbers Inc. or something like that... Oh, and I must exalt tetramorph for setting this up! We've only just begun, but I'm already having a blast. However, I guess our ref will probably be the one laughing most, having access to all our little intrigues behind the curtains...

The Red Baron, I am open to moving on as soon as others are. I would like each PC to get at least one public statement, proclamation, or whatever, even if something very short and simple, out on the Christendom Crier.Still no official public word from: Eleanor for Gallica ( The Semi-Retired Gamer) or Aelfred for Logres ( The Red Baron). Perhaps these two PCs prefer silence at this time. I'm just interested in getting the conversation started, that is all. Let me know.

TURN 1: Spring of the Year of the Heavenly King 990. Phase: REINFORCEMENT REINFORCEMENT IS NOW OPEN! NEGOTIATION PHASE IS NOW CLOSED Receiving no objections, I have decided it is time to move on. Please do NOT communicate by PM with one another (with regards to this game) until the next NEGOTIATION phase opens up for Turn 2. You may continue to communicate openly through the Christendom Crier. No big secrets at this point: everyone has two (2) new armies to place. (No one has kingdom bonuses, no one has 6 or more realms, no one has three trophies to "turn in.") Please PM me your reinforcement orders. You may place your two (2) new armies in any realm(s) currently occupied by your PC. Feel free to use your character record PM for such communications, etc.

It has been a day.
I have heard from half of you as of now.
Seems to me this phase, especially this particular first turn, should be able to move along at a nice clip.
Please get your reinforcement orders in to me ASAP.
Thanks!

They'll respond when they respond. PbP's aren't exactly a speedy gaming setup.
They might not have been online, or they might not have gotten the "participated threads" notification if they haven't posted in the thread you announced it in. Consider tagging players in the post where you announce a new turn, so they they will see it.
Edit: (I just checked, makofan and the semiretired gamer have not posted in this thread, so they probably missed the memo)
