I like Von's thought here. As I read it, it's a matter of clutter management and compartmenting the action properly. I'm thinking that the best interest of the game and those playing is the intent, and for what it's worth, I fully support all points. My follow-on suggestion. Create a "Monarch to Monarch" thread specifically for duels or the other perhaps rare player to player interactions. I bet this will help the crier thread be easy to read and have pertinent, well-organized posts to help each player remain abreast of current items of import, yet will allow for moments of joyful insanity such as mine and Makofan's Excellent idea, and one I think is well intended, Von.

If I may interject here, I can always move the monarch to monarch combat posts to the new thread, if you decide to start the new thread.

Admin Pete, you can do that? Just those posts? RAD! Yes, please go ahead and do that. Let's name it "Isabel vs. Eleanor: Turn 2" As soon as you have done so I will post up the next round! Thanks!

OK I have moved those posts into the new thread. I would suggest that tetramorph repeat part of the information in the first post in "Isabel vs. Eleanor: Turn 2" thread and put it in the reporters words as a new post in "The Christendom Crier" (IC thread) with a link to the "Isabel vs. Eleanor: Turn 2" thread. Or not, just a suggestion. But yeah, I can move anything around like that for you after the fact, so don't worry about where it is, I can always move it.

Thank you. I can understand the concerns about thread creep, but at the same time, we are sooner or later going to have events resolving side by side, and I have a tidy little mind. I'm finding the action much easier to follow now.

Von, you are communicating very clearly to me, so no worries. You know, this is a very good point. Here were my thoughts: the Crier is underutilized as it is. Big events like monarchs in duals, instead of having Caedman report about later, could be reported 'live from the field,' as it were (I mean, this is fantasy). Seems like that would put the Crier to good use, keep the info public, and avoids the unnecessarily multiplications of threads as the campaign develops. I've been thinking about this some more, and I wonder if - forgive me, tetramorph, for I mean no disrespect by this - there isn't a slight limiting factor imposed by the format. I have some character pieces I would like to write for Red Catherine, but they don't fit with the character of the thread: they are not so much IC pronouncements as pieces of flash fiction, which feel like they would not make sense in the context of reported news. The sense that the Crier is not an appropriate venue for what I am inspired to write is contributing to my lack of presence there - meanwhile, a concern about thread proliferation in this sub-forum is preventing me from simply opening up a new space (or asking you to do so) in which to write these nebulous 'other things'.

I've been thinking about this some more, and I wonder if - forgive me, tetramorph, for I mean no disrespect by this - there isn't a slight limiting factor imposed by the format. I read no disrespect, just honest communication about player perception that is helpful to the referee. And I think you have an obvious point that would have been hard for me, as ref, to see without a player's perspective. I would LOVE to read those character pieces. It is exactly the kind of game I was hoping for. As a single finite and fallible human being, I just can't always set up the "system" to get those going without y'all's good feedback. PLEASE do start a thread so that we can read your "flash fiction." Perhaps you could title it something like "Red Catherine: the Journal," or something fun and creative that you come up with. That way, when we see the thread, we know what we are getting into. I would find a title like that very attractive. My concern with thread-creap is clearly unfounded. D&D is a game where players (through their characters, of course) may attempt anything. I want you as my players to feel free to do so. So, again, Von, if you would, please start that thread, I am looking forward to reading it! Thank you all for helping to make this campaign more and more enjoyable.

The Red Baron, Von, Mr Darke, Necromancer, merctime, makofan: Tomorrow (Sat 6/27) I am off to vacation with family. I will have my cellular telephone that is intelligent with me, but not my computer. I will try to keep up with posts on the boards, but I will probably not be posting myself for the week. When I return, I will get things back up and running! Ah, summertime! Hope you are all enjoying yours. Peace

Fine by me. I've just moved house and next week is likely to be a blur of crates, paint fumes, trying to get my actual work done... so you enjoy your vacation and weep for me as I cover myself (and hopefully some walls) in emulsion...

The Red Baron, Von, Mr Darke, Necromancer, merctime, makofan: Behold, I return. I will be off on another vacation next week! But I am around this week and I hope to resolve the duel between our two lordly ladies if at all possible. I realize that I have no idea what this would mean campaign / invasion wise. So we will be ruling that one up together! So here goes!

The Red Baron, Von, Mr Darke, @mecromancer, merctime, makofan: Two things: 1. I'm off on another vacation for a week with the fam! But this time I will take my computer because hobby stuff is fun to me. Once I hear the next word of action from the players I will resolve the dueling queens as soon as possible and the turn can move on! 2. I apologize for the way the duel has slowed down play. Now, a.) it is summer and I perceive that we have all slowed down in activity a bit and b.) I had never done this kind of heroic combat b/w two high lvl PCs before, so I really didn't know what I was getting into. I've learned a lot and I will not do things the same way in future. I do want to allow for duels but I want them to move at a faster clip in future. I am going five rounds at a time from here on out. I am open to y'all's opinions and suggestions with this regard, of course. Happy continuing summer time!

The Red Baron, Von, Mr Darke, Necromancer, merctime, makofan: Behold, I return again. I have one other week long trip this summer, in August. Looks like makofan is away for a bit. I haven't not received word or response from merctime. As soon as I do I will get this duel moving so that we can keep this campaign moving! Thanks for your patience. We are all learning here. I appreciate y'all's willingness to make this campaign idea happen. Peace

The Red Baron, Von, Mr Darke, Necromancer, merctime, makofan: Folks, I think all things slow down in the summer time. It also looks as though merctime has gone MIA for the time being. I have decided to wait no longer. I am pushing ahead with the duel, NPCing Eleanor. This duel should be decided upon the next turn of rounds. I am sorry for the delay, but perhaps it was a good summer break for all. I know I needed to slow down. My only worry is that the campaign will loose momentum. I do hope you are all still interested, especially as the cooler weather of the fall brings us back to the necessary diligence of our hobby! Fight on!

So... um... hi there, tetramorph and the rest of you guys! I've been absent for the most part this summer since real life has left me with very little spare time (even less so than usual, I should perhaps add). So, no problem on my behalf that things have been slow lately. I've tried to check in once in a while so I wouldn't miss anything important. Things start to get back to normal this week, but on the other hand I've just got myself a new job, so I'll have to adjust accordingly. Hopefully I'll manage to find some time to engage in some RPG- and art-related matters too!

The Red Baron, Von, Mr Darke, Necromancer, merctime, makofan: Well, guys, the summer seems to have had an affect upon all of us and that duel took a long time and killed some of my energy -- perhaps yours as well. I am going to study the outcome and get all results of turn 2 attack phase to everyone this week. It will then be time for fortification orders. Here is our status. Two players are MIA: merctime and Mr Darke. merctime is out of the game as his PC is defeated. I am not going to NPC Mr Darke's PC anymore, so you guys can run amok in there and clean up on the next turn. Please just post if you are still reading these threads and ready and willing to continue once I parcel out the final information as a result of the completion of the duel this week. Hope we've all had good summers. Cheers

The Red Baron, Von, Mr Darke, Necromancer, makofan: TURN 2: Fall of the Year of the Heavenly King 990. Phase: FORTIFICATION Invasions have now been resolved and PMs with details sent to each one of you. FORTIFICATION IS NOW OPEN! INVASION PHASE IS NOW CLOSED Please do NOT communicate by PM with one another (with regards to this game) until the next NEGOTIATION phase opens up for Turn 3. You may continue to communicate openly through the Christendom Crier. Please PM me your fortification orders. Please double check fortification rules on the Rules and Clarifications thread. Please remember that players in open alliance may pass troops freely through continuous allied territories. They may even combine armies for shared attacks. Please send me your PMs with the following title "PC short name, Kingdom Name: Fortification Orders." We can continue to manage all such subsequent fortification orders on that PM thread by placing the Turn # at the top of your new post. Eleanor was defeated in a duel and is out of the game. Her lands are free to be conquered, leaderless. Note: I continue to NPC for Mr Darke: Constans of Byzantia. If I must NPC the fortification phase for Constans I will announce his departure so that you can discuss amongst yourselves how to conquer and divvy up his holdings. I will not seek a substitute player.

The Red Baron, Von, Necromancer, makofan: TURN 3: Spring of the Year of the Heavenly King 991. Phase: NEGOTATION NEGOTIATION IS NOW OPEN! FORTIFICATION is now over and TURN 2 concluded! merctime has lost Eleanor in a duel, so, despite some lingering armies, Gallica is now leaderless. I have neither seen nor heard from Mr Darke in some time. I therefore now count Byzantia as leaderless as well: discuss amongst yourselves! I will soon post a new "op ed" on the Christendom Crier. Please have your PCs post some public announcement, statement, plea, or whatever, on the Crier as well. You may do so at any time. This is the time that private negotiation is acceptable. Please remember to include me on any PMs. This is also the time to deliver to me any orders for spies or scouts (delegations, search-parties, etc.). You may send those to me right away or wait towards the end of this phase and do so right before close of phase. FIGHT ON!
