Raven fires up the drives and prepares to goose the ship for max acceleration depending on what response she gets from Patagonia Traffic Control and from the SDB18. If we are attacked or we get a negative response from the Patagonia Traffic Control, she is prepared to try to take the SDB18 out quickly and then get out of here. Odd of the patrol boat to lock on us with the history we have here, but it won't be the first time locals have turned on us. Can't forget about the Browly Green either. Something fishy here, they should not be where they are.

OOC: No, taking the incoming message won't help with getting a lock on your ship. Your Transponder is already on, that's normal procedure, and it's a radio signal so over time that gives a pretty good location on the ship. Not enough to lock it for firing lasers, but good enough if missiles were to be fired. Turning off your Transponder would get you unwanted attention from any Patrol Boats in the vicinity and you don't want to do that if you can avoid it. It's likely that Browly Green just want to chat."Browly Green here, out of Fillo Thome via Fionn." the message continues, "Come in Clear Sails! Where are you bound?"The Clear Sails begins to coast. The time to your jump point begins increasing. A minute later you receive incoming hails from Patagonia Traffic Control and from a Patrol Boat called SDB18. They have both noticed that your ship has stopped accelerating and are wondering if you're suffering an engine failure and if you need help. The Patrol Boat lights up its Transponder and paints Clear Sails with its active sensors. It has been absent from your screens until now, but with its active sensors up and its Transponder on, you get a good position for it. It's starboard and forward of your ship about 200,000 kms away. Ignoring Browly Green for the moment, Raven sends a message to the PTC, " Should we be concerned about being targeted by Patrol Boat SDB18? Is there a problem that we don't know about?' Then on limited intercom to the two gunners, " Be ready, at my command, to fire with all guns blazing." OOC: Raven thinks to herself, something about this really stinks and it makes me think that there is a lot of info missing from our briefing. Seems that the bribes may have already been passed out to take us out. "Negative, Clear Sails. SDB18 is preparing to provide assistance if you need it." is the quick reply, "You appear to have lost engine power. Are you having difficulties?"

Raven fires up the drives and prepares to goose the ship for max acceleration Once the ship is moving again, everything seems to go back to normal between Traffic Control and the SDB. The SDB holds its position. The incoming free trader does enter medium range as it flies past the Clear Sails, but never powers up any sort of weapons. Eventually, the Clear Sails reaches the 100 d limit and can begin jump procedures. Engineering waits to flip the switch to bring the Jump Drive online while the Jump One software is loaded in the computer (what are you removing?) in the computer room just off the bridge. Once Jump One software is running, the Navigator starts the programmed course for Elati running and nods to the Pilot. Engineering is notified to start the Jump Drive and the Pilot punches the execute button on her console and the clock counts down from 60 seconds to 0 ... Everyone feels space twist in their heads and their eyes defocus for a moment, and then everything straightens out and you're in Jump Space. A quick check shows that the ship's shields are in place and holding and there is nothing on the sensor screen. The ship's clock automatically resets to 168:0:0 and begins to count down again. You'll need to keep an eye on the sensors, just in case, but there is almost never a problem. Otherwise, you're in Jump Protocol for the next week. OOC: The SDB wasn't out of get you and neither was that free trader. The SDB was getting ready to help you if you'd had a problem and the free trader just wanted to exchange information and chat. Talk about paranoid! Of course, just because you're paranoid doesn't mean that no one is out to get you. They just weren't *this* time.

Gilroy pages the bridge, "Hoy Cap'n! Unless you feel it's necessary to keep the weapons powered up I will be powering them down and requesting permission to leave the turret."

Once the ship is safely in jump, Peng powers down the cannon capacitors and secures the turret from action stations . . .
Of course, there are those spacers tales of jump monsters. But if such do exist, I rather doubt ship cannon would be at all effective against them.
. . . then unrolls his hammock and sacks out for a nap.
All that adrenaline has just worn me plumb out.
Within moments, Peng is snoring loudly.

The following programs were loaded and running: Target, Gunner Interact, Launch and Anti-hijack. We swapped out Launch for Jump so that the Jump can be initiated. Once we are in Jump Space we will swap Gunner Interact out for Library.

Guns are powered down and I'm headed for my cabin. Call me if you need me." Having powered down the guns and targeting systems, Gilroy returns to his cabin and begins searching the library for educational vids to improve his piloting skills.

Okay, we're going through the week in Jump Space quickly. I'll roll to see if there is an event, but otherwise, just tell me what your PC is doing for the week in Jump Space?
1. What is the bridge/engineering rotation? You should keep one pilot on the bridge and an engineer on duty 24/7, otherwise the roll for a bad "event" might have a DM.
2. Anyone working out or studying? As a reminder, if you workout every day you can temporarily boost all three of your physical characteristics by 1 for as long as you continue to work out. Also, my skill improvement house rule is in play, but you have to "declare" what skill you're working on if you're working on one.
3. Any other actions/activities you want to engage in this week?

If there's a place to do it, Baltus will work on Laser Rifle practice, or Auto Pistol, or if weapons practice is not reasonable, if he can work with someone to learn Electronics.

I propose that we rotate shifts and each of the three engineers take one shift a day in Engineering. All five of us are pilots, I will take the first shift and Ha-Penny the second shift. On even days Ha-Penny and I will both take on 4 extra hours to cover the third shift as a pilot. On the odd days Thazar and Gilroy will split that third shift as a pilot the same way. Each of us staying later or coming in earlier to cover that third shift.
2. Raven is going to start training in Engineering.
3. Raven will spend some of her off time getting to know Cho and her people better and doing a lot of listening. Raven will also make two surprise checks of Ha-Penny's hidey-hole.

[OOC: Peng will - reluctantly - perform the exercises that allow him to remain his trim and robust self, zoning out on his earbuds the entire time. I don't see him being willing to work hard enough at such a program to boost his Strength, but boosting Dexterity and Endurance might be possible.]

Cyril would really like to learn to drive the ATV, but he can't imagine how that would be practical during jump. How about learning to assist Doc Vargas?

[OOG: If the ATV is TL A, it should have the capability to train drivers using virtual reality controls. I'm sure the various ship systems allow this, so why not the ship's vehicle? The RL truck driving school I went to had some rather nifty VR trainers.]

Raven will also make two surprise checks of Ha-Penny's hidey-hole. The first time Raven starts to check Peng's turret . . . As the turret's manual locking wheel begins to squeek around, the person cranking it from the bridge side hears - muffled by the thick steel - Peng call out: "Who the Hell is that and why can't you call me on the 'comm like a civilized person?"

Raven arrives at Peng's turret, barely a minute after his shift on the bridge was over and only a few seconds after he entered the turret. As Raven finishes opening the turret hatch she replies, "Now Ha-Penny, why are you talking about "civilized?" When has "civilized" ever meant anything to you? BTW see to it that that locking wheel is properly lubricated." She looks the area over and sniffs the air. Then says, "Alright Ha-Penny, more orderly than your norm and it almost smells clean, while it is too much to hope that you are making any lasting changes, at least you appear to be taking my admonition seriously. See too it that you continue to do so. I really hate to say it, but good job. Carry on!" and so she departs.

"But Cap! I like it squeaky! Let's me know when y . . somebody is trying to sneak in on me."
Nevertheless, Peng begins to rummage in his toolbox for some silicone spray . . .
Guess I'll have to point a motion sensor at the wheel. Now, where to put it so she won't find it?

OOC: I never actually set a date did I? Okay, I'll do that now...
Using the Patagonian calendar it is the year 612. You jumped from Patagonia on day 111 and should arrive in the Elati system on 118.
The week in Jump passes...
There are various card games, where no one wins any...or much...money from anyone else. Mostly you just get to know each other a little. Some of the crew and passengers work of in the small gym while others spend time each day training with the virtual instructors to learn or improve various skills.
Anything else from anyone before you're ready to emerge at Elati?

". . . at some point I will let you know about the next surprise inspection of Ha-Penny's turret." Peng does get that motion sensor installed, BTW. He hides it by placing it inside a dummy angle brace, one that he then superglues into a shadowy corner of the overhead. Given the long and convoluted maintenance history of The Clear Sails, the fake brace fits right in. [OCC: Other than this, I can think of nothing more to have Peng do over the course of the jump. Stick Lady seems to have shut him down hard and - other than his usual half-hearted flirting with Raven - there aren't any other "targets" on his radar. And just having Lazy Peng voluntarily exercise is stretching things!]
