I thought the agent we encountered was a woman. Yep, and her name is Sam. Okay

Everyone, I am the caregiver for my Mother. She is at the end stage of her life now, measured in days, if not hours and I'm going to be elsewhere for a while. I dread the end, I dread the aftermath, but it is here.
I know I'm probably going to need some distraction from what is coming, but any posts in the game I make will be scattered...at best. I'm afraid I'll just disappear on you all for an extended period.
I think it is best to put the game on pause until August. I'll try to keep you apprised of how I'm doing, if I can. In a couple of weeks, maybe, I'll be in a place I can resume things.
Between now and then, please, feel free to chat among yourselves. I'll tell you what I have in mind for the near future of the game and y'all can talk about it. Blackjack is going to have you take the ship all the way back to Patagonia to off load the Agent, Blackjack and his Madame Cho and then turn the ship over to you. The Romanian Intelligence Agency is going to "debrief" you and they and Delgado Trading, who chartered the ship, are going to make you an offer. Clear Sails will be a target in the Mantan Subsector, so the offer will be to let the RIA (and Delgado) take it and use it as "bait" to flush out the pirates/slavers and they will trade you a new ship, without a history, that you can use to "explore" the subsector. I think you can take all that as a given and we'll be picking up the on Patagonia.
Those players that want to continue can figure out what ship will suit you for your purposes and begin fitting it out. It would also be a good time to pick a different character, add a second character to play (like JR is doing with Tak and Tol...I think we should just say that's permeate as Matt doesn't appear to be coming back, or switch up skills and such on the one you currently have to better fit the needs of the crew if are of a mind to do that. Or, if you want to, you could keep Clear Sails and turn down the offer, but that's something y'all should talk about among yourselves.
Sorry, I've got to go.

You have my prayers for both of you and if there is anything that I can do for you here, just let me know.

I dread the end, I dread the aftermath, but it is here. I'm not quite there yet, but I'm getting close. My own mother is 88 and in increasingly frail health. Plus, my brother (who is actually two years younger than me) is also in very poor health. When I'm not working or sleeping, I'm usually running errands and otherwise helping with their daily existence. I hope events proceed in the best manner possible. Don't worry about hurrying back to the game. Peng [as well as another and quite different PC] will be waiting, whenever you're ready to come back.

{Romanian Intelligence Agency and Delgado Trading} will trade you a new ship, without a history, that you can use to "explore" the subsector . . . add a second character to play . . . Perhaps you might release Miss Sam Spy to me, to play as my second character? In game, her most recent cover identity has likely been blown, so she'll now be at "loose ends" as far as RIA is concerned. Exploring the opposite end of Mantan Subsector might be just the thing for her. Also, she's something of a known quality to at least some of the current PCs, so integrating her into the crew should be relatively painless. Out of game, Sam's skill set hasn't yet been defined, so we can assign her whatever skills would best support our new identity. In terms of a ship, I vote for something on the order of a {modified of course} Suleiman Class Scout Courier or perhaps an Animal Class Safari Ship. Both have Jump 2, which would likely give us access to most (if not all) of the star systems in Mantan. The Animal would give us several times the potential cargo capacity (assuming conversion of the capture/trophy tanks), but the Suleiman (with it's 2Gs) would allow us to run away from danger easier. I await input from my fellow players.

I'm sorry to hear that Eris. Having lost both my parents (they were my adoptive parents and 50 years my senior) I can understand what you're going through. Take the time you need and we'll jaw here while you spend time with your mom and deal with life. Hugs.

The Animal would give us several times the potential cargo capacity (assuming conversion of the capture/trophy tanks), but the Suleiman (with it's 2Gs) would allow us to run away from danger easier. I await input from my fellow players. Someone posted a ship on Facebook that combined the Safari ship and the yacht to make something far more interesting. A J2 M6 speedster yacht. The text of their post: There are two classic Traveller starships that have always seemed to me to be rather lacking. First, the Type Y yacht. The standard Traveller yacht doesn't seem like much of a prestige craft; it isn't very fast, it isn't streamlined, and it seems to prioritize the size of your entourage (14 staterooms) over the quality of their accommodation. Also, the few canonical illustrations are, for want of a better word, ugly. Second, the Animal class safari ship. This is a bit of a niche craft to have a "standard design" - it seems more like a variant of a rich person's fancy ship, in short: a yacht. So why not combine the two? What would a safari ship-shaped flying wing look like if it was kitted out for a) luxury, b) bling and c) speed? The holding tanks go (obviously), and there's probably not a good argument for having a 20dT launch capable of 1G in a streamlined vessel that's faster. Here's the Gallant-class Type Y2 Yacht (designed using MgT2 High Guard): TL14, 200dT, Maneuver 6G (!), Jump-2, MCr135.64 5 crew (pilot, navigator/medic, 2x engineer, steward) 2 luxury staterooms (10dT each), 4 high staterooms (6dT each), 11dT lounge 4 crew staterooms (4dT each, one at double occupancy) 5dT cargo Maneuver drive, jump drive and power plant all take as many levels of energy efficiency as possible. Ship also contains a biosphere that can eliminate the life support costs of up to 14 people, 2dT of concealed compartments for valuables, and has a holographic hull that uses more energy than the maneuver drive and jump drive combined. Bling, we got. And the image:

I like the Gallant. But will Eris let us have it? It costs as much as a Suleiman and Animal combined. I don't see the RIA/Delgado springing for quite that much. Although . . .
. . . it's likely to be at least as much of a "pirate magnet" - or more precisely "hijacker magnet" - as the Clear Sails. Every pirate worth his parrot is going to be salivating over it's acceleration alone!

We’ve got the new engineer, the piratical Vargr, and our sensor guy to make sure we get fit into the mix.

Fortunately, all three of the new guys have used us as examples and put their PC's stats into their sigs! Looking at the above, I don't see as we need anything more in the way of skills, unless we just want to have spare characters in case of casualties.

I couldn’t see them on my phone. Maybe Eris wants to upsize out ship and we need more bodies? Without knowing the slots we need to fill, it’s a little hard to make everything fit. If we want a PC medical person and a steward, that would be an addition.

Something I’d like to toss out there. When you think of traveller, it’s merchants going from place to place. It works but if we have a chance to change up the dynamic in some way, we should at least consider it now. Not saying we have to go crazy, but what other possibilities are there out there? At the pace of forum games, we’ll never have much of a chance to do lots of the merchant thing, so why not? Maybe we could get a big gunboat or corsair and hunt pirate slavers. Actually a Corsair would be fast and have guns and cargo space. Then Peng could get the big guns we all know he wants.

At the pace of forum games, we’ll never have much of a chance to do lots of the merchant thing, so why not? I've run (and occassionally played in) some mercenary games. I guess the most fun one I ran was the one where I used Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan Universe as the backdrop. The PCs were a small, independent unit of the Dendarri Free Mercenaries, an advance team of "auditors" whose mission was to look for lucrative future contracts for the main unit. I got the idea from how successful contractors are always working three jobs: the one they're in the middle of, the one they're finishing and the one they're starting. Maybe we could get a big gunboat or corsair and hunt pirate slavers. Actually a Corsair would be fast and have guns and cargo space. Then Peng could get the big guns we all know he wants. Yes, Peng would like big guns under his thumbs.

The most fun game I played in was - as I think I mentioned previously elsewhere - a PbP game in the Firefly/Serenity universe, in which the party was a group of war vets (a bunch of ex-Browncoats with one Purplebelly prisoner/deserter . . . my PC) who were trying to get off a war-ravaged moon and into the Black.

Yes, Peng would like big guns under his thumbs. A captured corsair would have good speed, good weapons, and make for a pretty cool change of pace, now that I think of it. If they wanted to send us after the pirate that tried to shoot us up, I bet our Vargr friend would be onboard. Our second characters could be our muscle. wiki.travellerrpg.com/Nishemani_class_Corsair

In the end, it’ll depend on if the other players are interested and Eris feels like taking on that kind of adventure. Personally, I think I’d like to be the hunter for a change. Get into a fight for the right reasons and stop some bad guys. These pirates seem like more than just a small menace. They seem organized. I’d like to see an adventure dealing with them as a thorn in their side rather than their target. Peng’s new girlfriend could be our handler. Personally, I’d enjoy the heck out of something like this.
