Peng, Charlie, Cyril and both Aslan, at least, should know who this "contact" is. Maybe one or more of these of these folks could mention to Aarav that perhaps they know who the "Romanian secret agent" is . . . and then a plan to retrieve her(?) along the lines Cyril has suggested could be worked out while the others are capturing debris with the launch. . . .

Peng has now explained IC what is known about Miss Machina (more or less anyway). I've also noted OOC what his contribution to her retrieval plan would be. Of course, we can play out discussing this IC, if desired.

With the body which has been recovered from the space debris, that gives a casualty count of at least four for the crew of Taggart. Seems like that might leave them with some challenges in terms of threatening Clear Sails in the near term. . . .
Also, having killed at least four of them, how much more vengeance is the crew of Clear Sails intent on trying to inflict on these folks? Are we a "kill one of us, we kill all of you" sort of gang? (If so, why fool ourselves by bothering to do anything "proper" with the body we've recovered? Let's dump it out the airlock and get back to the blood feud. . . .)

Everything so far has been an in the heat of battle sort of thing. We haven’t decided how blood feudiish we are at this point.

Everything so far has been an in the heat of battle sort of thing. We haven’t decided how blood feudiish we are at this point. The battle ended, IC, many, many minutes ago: The comm buzzes. It's a message from the pirates, "You bastards! We'll get even with you for this!" And with that the ship flashes out of normal space leaving behind nothing but a flash of light...and a small cloud of debris that quickly disperses and is gone.
OOC, the battle ended nearly a month ago. (Taggart won't be "back" for over two weeks, IC, soonest.)
Since then, Blackjack wandered around and offered the three new PCs working passage positions, and Clear Sails spent time looking for a remote site planetside to conduct wilderness refuelling. The decision to divert to the debris field came after all of that, not in the heat of any battle. The pirates aboard Taggart are just the hired guns; the folks they were working for are most likely somewhere down on the planet. An NPC who apparently knows a lot about what's going on is trying hard to fall into our hands. And we're looking for a place to bury an unknown corpse we found in outer space. . . .

The battle ended hours ago in game. None of the PCs have had an opportunity to even talk about it without urgent tasks needing attention. As for Taggart, yep, gone. Yet there very well could be a compatriot ship arriving at any time. The pressure is not off. In PBEM nothing happens quickly. We’ll get to the agent needing rescue and refuel shortly. It’s the best we can do. Then we can get to know one another and talk once we jump. If of course we don’t have the second pirate ship jump in at an inconvenient moment.

The pirates aboard Taggart are just the hired guns; the folks they were working for are most likely somewhere down on the planet. Well . . . yes and no. The crew of the Taggart might not be at the peak of the organizational hierarchy, but they also aren't "just the hired guns." Given the lack of FTL communications in Traveller, the folk on the sharp end of whatever's going on are those who are (in a very concrete sense) in charge. In addition, actual pirates [e.g. self-organized criminal gangs] don't tend to bow overmuch to higher authority. Someone may be [probably is] profiting from their activities by fencing their ill-gotten gains for them and as a consequence of that may have some influence over the pirate's choice of targets. But there probably isn't an Evil Mastermind behind it all. Unless - of course - the crew of Taggart aren't truly pirates at all. For example, they could be naval personnel of some local power, only pretending to be pirates/slavers in order for their activities to remain deniable by their government. But given their behavior since first encountered, I rather doubt that. They'd have to be rather good actors, to actually be a disciplined crew pretending to be an undisciplined rabble. Nope. Everything taken together, I'm pretty sure they're real (if barely competent) pirates.

Can you say "player character party grenade?"
It seems like each of the currently-active PCs is now in a separate scene. Unless I've gotten confused (which is eminently possible), Peng is the only PC on the launch.

Jones is just the chauffeur and "the agent" is just the target.

I want to say that as a spectator and as a referee I am so enjoying this When Ekhunoz puts his hand on the rail of the gangway to pull himself up to the bottom step a strange feeling strikes him. Suddenly, he wants to stop and go back to the trees. He wants to throw his bolo up into the canopy, but he doesn't understand why... And I have to bite my tongue too.

I just hope that all of us can keep straight what's happening to who and when/where. Running three separate scenes at the same time can be challenging in a FtF game. Doing it in a PbP is . . . intriguing, to say the least.

It sure is fascinating to watch. Let's see if I can pull off four separate scenes. These should not be long enough to require four separate threads, but in a pbp I could see a scenario that would require splitting into four separate threads and then the trick would be if each thread progressed at close enough speeds, that they could all wrap up and come back together at roughly the same time.

Yep, you are quite correct. I've had this come up before in both fantasy and traveller pbems. I haven't done it in a forum game before though. If the threads are going to be separated for extended periods, I'd go with separate (a,b,c) threads, but I HOPE I can get by with a Location/Who's Present[/Time] line at the top of each post. I haven't added the Time entry yet, but I should have on this set and will have to in future posts. Time 0:00 will be when the threads seriously diverged and we'll see if that will keep things straight. I personally, know what's what, who's where, and when's when, but we've already had a player cross locations. I retconned that, but added the Thread Line to the posts I made today. As the Launch is still 20 minutes from their "pickup" and I don't want to make Oscar and raikenclw wait around while things are happening elsewhere the timestamp is going to be required for future posts. I think it will work but it might make it hard for lurkers to follow the action. Sorry about that.

It's an ability that we learn, the more players you have the more crucial it is.

I've been trying trying to come up with different font faces/styles/colors for different kinds of communications. An idea: Face to face: "Airal/no styling/Blue (or your color of choice, but I like blue best)" sans serif fontsOver Comm: "Georgia/size 3/no styling/Blue(or your color for FtF)" serif fonts, thought about Courier, too
Thoughts/Psi: "Comic Sans/italics/Blue (or your color for Ftf)" a wonky sans serif font I'm keeping Red for my OOC comments, yours too, if you'd like. I'm sure I'll forget, but I think changing font face/style will help keep conversations more clear. I think some of you are already using your own "personal" color for your PC's dialog, and I like that...as long as the color is readable on the screen. Black <-- Standard textRed <-- OOC from Ref (or others?) Yellow <-- Not really usable Pink <-- OK Green <-- Ok Orange <-- Ok Purple <-- Ok Blue <-- Ok Beige <-- too light Brown <-- Ok Teal <-- Ok Navy <-- Ok Maroon <-- Ok Lime Green <-- Ok Olive <-- Ok Ghost White <-- Okay for hidden text ffffff White <-- REALLY hidden text! A few other web safe, readable, colors cccc00ffcc33cc99ffff6633cc3300cc0066660000666666006600333333...using the hex codes is probably too much work, though. Thoughts?

As a color blind person I can give you some feedback. Yellow, Pink, Orange, Beige, Lime Green are as hard to read as Ghost White and White. Red, Green, Purple, Teal and Olive would benefit from either being a font size bigger or from being in bold. Black, Blue, Brown, Navy and Maroon work well for me at that font size, although I cannot tell Blue and the Navy apart, nor can I tell Brown and Maroon apart. cccc00 hard to see ffcc33 hard to see cc99ff hard to see ff6633 larger font or bold cc3300 larger font or bold cc0066 OK 660000 OK 666666 OK 006600 OK 333333 OK

I'm mostly okay with the above. As others have likely noted, I like to put my PC's speech and thoughts in purple, usually also bolded (unless he's whispering or something like that).
I do think that we should maybe leave red for the GM's OOC comments. Perhaps put player OOC comments in orange?

NOTE: I'm mildly colorblind myself, just enough so that I can't reliably read an old-style radar/sonar screen. In past games, when someone used a font color I couldn't easily read, I would quote the post concerned, then use the BBCode option to reveal the base text.

That just gives me white text on a blue background, but that's a little inconvenient. <shrug> IAC, my post was just be "thinking out loud", not even a suggestion for you guys, mostly for me. I was just expressing the idea that different fonts/styles/colors could help make FTF dialog/electronic dialog/thoughts easier to pick out. I will say is that dark text on light background (or vice versa) is easier for my, 10 days short of, 70 year old eyes to read.
