OOC: I thought I was gone from here for 5 days and it was only 2! Okay, I'm back and up to speed, and my guesses weren't too far off, although, y'all are more testy than I thought you'd be. Okay, back to the game...Computer Mod 1/bis (4/4). Programs Loaded: Target, Gunner-Interact, Launch, <blank> The screens on the Bridge start to make things clear. You see the planet's surface and there is a Dot on the screens showing the other ship. It is pulling 2 g and screaming around the planet's surface only slowly making altitude. It going to be behind the planetary limb in 8 seconds. It is still using Active Sensors, but something is wrong because although it has been painting you, it has already missed shots twice. Clear Sails is another Dot rising more slowly, J1/M1, you'll never catch them if they run for it unless you slow them down. You can still get off a few shots and a hit on them might very well slow them down! Peng has 3 of the 4 lasers charged with the 4th 10 seconds away. Ekhunoz sees that a canister (#3 of 20) is already inserted and ready to fire and the screen shows another (#1 of 20) is also loaded in the other turret...there is an autoloader that the other gunner must have used that Ekhunoz didn't know about. Ekhunoz and Peng are working out a shot and the launch of sand for defense. You two can play that out at your convenience.Aarav sees the radio light blinking, someone is calling Clear Sails. Does he answer the call?Charlie can plot a chase vector down low or plot a vector that sends Clear Sails almost straight up trying to get above the other ship as it comes around the backside of the planet. Tak is doing the best he can to ditch those Active Sensors, and he has them losing lock, but they get it right back. Their sensor operator is good! Everyone at the screens notices that the other ship isn't doing much maneuver, just running like hell to get behind the planet. Down on in Engineering, Blackjack looks Casca in the eye and says, "Can you get on the Inertial Compensators, they are working, but they are hitting red line every time the pilot jenks the ship? And thanks for trying to help Raven, anyway." OOC: Just so the new folks understand. Tok is played by Matt and Tak is played by Joe, but Matt seems to have disappeared on us so Joe has been playing both our Aslan until we can do something about that.
OOC2: Oscar, we haven't heard from Cyril since he came running back from the ATV. Yes, he made it aboard, but what has Cyril been up to since then?

Aarav watches with genuine professional admiration as Charlie transfers the sensor suite from the Electronics console to his Nav console. OOC: Is it? Earlier someone said it was a nav function. OOC: All 3 stations can be configured to run as Pilot, Nav, Sensors/Comm. The normal pattern is Nav to port, Pilot in the center and Sensor/Comm to starboard. We can say that Charlie was at the port station with both Nav and Sensors/Comm running there, but threw the latter to the starboard station when Aarav took that chair.
Also, the Gunner's stations in the turrets can (generally do) control Active and Targeting sensors. The station on the main Bridge is mostly used for non-combat electronics and communications although it can take over the combat functions if needed.

"That's simply not true. You do know who we are." (Where did this "we" come from, he wonders, looking quickly at Aarav.) "You know we are people who helped your friend, not knowing that you would be shot at, or that we would be taken aboard your ship. We are people who are offering to help now. And you know we are not the ones shooting at you. If you do not want our help, if you are choosing to take prisoners of people who help because you are having a bsd day, then you are seeking enemies where there are none."OOC: Again, I ask, is anyone pointing a weapon at Casca? OOC: Joe? You got a gun on Casca or is it pointing at the deck?It was back in her holster at that point, I think.

Aarav sees the radio light blinking, someone is calling Clear Sails. Does he answer the call?Seeing the indicator in the comms suite on the console before him, Aarav looks over at Charlie and Takheal. "Someone is trying to contact us. Would you like me to acknowledge the hail?"
OOC: Aarav won't touch the control unless one of them gives their assent, but if so, he activates the comm channel, putting it on "speaker," and says, "Receiving you. Please identify yourself."

Takheal follows the steering cue on his display, and he stands the ship on her tail, while rolling as quickly as she will respond to bring both turrets to bear on the fleeing ship. The Clear Sails roars skyward at over 2,000 KPH, still accelerating at her max of one gee.

Casca nods and follows the Aslan back to engineering in silence. When he sees the hulking shape of Blackjack emerge from between the drives, had smiles. Of course, he thinks to himself, and sheepishly waves.
He is however impressed with the grace with which Blackjack greets him. "Inertial Compensators. Check. And thanks for understanding: I misjudged what was going on out there, and I am glad I didn't mess things up for you."
He removes his shoulder bag, and places it on the floor in front of where he will be working. One of the valves has lost its handle, and a vise-grip wrench has been placed where it had been. He tries it with his hand, confirms that it's tight enough, and then opens the circuit case. He's comfortable among the engines. If there's a cloth nearby, clean or not, he uses it to remove some of the blood from the older woman, Cho. He'd rather have graphite powder on his hand than another's blood.
"On it," he says.

Peng replies to Ekhunoz over the turret-to-turret link: "Glad you're back! Quick brief: Blue lines are where my cannons are aimin'. Red dot is where cans you launch explode. Usin' the joystick, put the red dot on the ship image - WITHOUT coverin' the blue lines - then 'LAUNCH.' Questions?"
"I believe its within my capacity. There are sensors integrated to the system for optimal fire times? I will do to my ability. Gunner 2 out."Ekhunoz begins learing how to use the system and swing of the joy stick and delay and begin watching the battle and launch when corret.

"Charlie Lin, navigator. Sorry you got caught up in this." Anticipating a response from the comms console at any moment, Aarav says, "Well met, Navigator Lin." He grins softly. "Jumped into 'this' on my own initiative," he says, looking around the bridge. After a moment he adds, "Perhaps after the immediate situation has been resolved, you could tell me a bit about what 'this' is." He grins widely.

Takheal cuts into the conversation. "We need a sensors sweep ahead of us. We will be in orbit shortly, and my visual scans are no longer useful at this velocity." Aarav attempts to activate the appropriate controls for the sensor sweep on his console, then sends the output to the main bridge display. He also switches the Active Sensors and Targeting outputs from his console display to secondary bridge displays, so they're visible to Takheal and Charlie.
He continues to monitor the comms channel for a response to his interrogative.

Get it steady on the ship icon, hit 'Launch' and the system does the rest. Autoloader is engaged now, so let it cycle in new cans. It's faster than manual, but keep clear of it's swing! It's been known to try loadin' stray limbs, instead!"Peng returns his full attention to his targeting screen . . . [Internal Thought] Three guns charged, one here and two in the other turret. Fourth not gonna be ready until bogie's beyond the limb. We're climbin' hard, so that might change. Still . . . three's better than nothing . . .[/Internal Thought] Peng fires his three ready cannon, aiming so as to bracket the fleeing pirate. Even if his target twitches to one side in the fraction of a second between when Peng triggers the weapons and when the three bolts actually cross the intervening distance at the speed of light, at least one of them should score a hit . . . all other things being equal, that is. ********************************************** [OOC: The first-generation autoloader in the Russian T-72 Main Battle Tank actually had this reputation. ]

Cyril has no experience whatever with space combat. He had credited himself with some theoretical understanding, but the realization has been forced on him that he has no idea how he can be useful. He's been busy, though, and now there's lots of coffee available in the galley. It comes to him that the middle of a gunfight is no time to be taking drink orders, and he's locked out of the bridge, anyway, so he appoints himself damage control.
He tours the ship closing hatches and establishing airtight integrity and securing loose objects. He collects his shotgun and ammo but carries it unloaded, then heads for sickbay to see if he can lend a hand.

Sensors come up and the sweep shows nothing along the path the ship is traveling. Then the comm comes to life, "Starport Control here! Stand down immediately and return to the port!"

The sensors pick up a small spread of debris arcing out from where the pirate ship disappeared around the planet. It's too small to be a mission kill, but you clearly damaged it.

He has his shotgun under his arm as he goes. Reaching Sickbay he finds Dr. Vargas working on Gilroy on an operating table. Madam Cho is on another table, unconscious, but not covered up. There is a completely covered body on a third table. Vargas looks up and says, "Couldn't save Raven. The other two I've got stabilized and they should be okay."
