Just wondering how with a strength of 3 that Raven can pick up a broadsword, much less wield it. Is it constructed of "special materials"? :-?

I just rolled it up btb, so if you want to swap it out for something more appropriate for my strength that is fine with me. I assume the same issue would apply to wielding a shotgun for that matter.

Maybe Raven is really, really short (e.g. shorter than Peng!) and thus her "broadsword" is actually a shortsword, but due to "special [high tech] materials" it still does broadsword damage.

That's sort of the ballpark I was aiming at although it could just be a "special" construct for her character. Sort of like a vorpal blade or a blade with a monomolecular edge. The damage would be equivalent to a broadsword but the weight would be much lower. I'd say keeping it as a "broadsword" actually makes Raven *much* more interesting from that perspective because it might be something that the GM would use as a plot hook at some point in the future. Not trying to be a rules lawyer, just found it interesting and wondered what the backstory might be. :-)

. . . a blade with a monomolecular edge . . . I would personally go with a vibroblade, in part because this gives the GM more control (e.g. it needs batteries, which can wear out) and partly because a vibroblade is essentially a small but VERY efficient chainsaw. A monomolecular edge - on the other hand - still needs significant inertia/mass behind it. Without that, all you're doing is giving someone a wicked papercut. While the weapon's edge is beyond razor sharp, the rest of the blade still must be forced into the cut this edge starts, before it will actually deal a significant wound.

True, although a wicked paper cut in the right spot might prove to be fatal. ;-) It's still an interesting character development hook though. How did Raven come by the blade? Is the blade a family heirloom? A gift from someone? I suspect that it's not from the grey or black markets because Raven seems to be more of a straight-up by-the-book character. Perhaps its an artifact of the Ancients or an experiment from some secret Imperial research? Is Raven unknowingly the last scion of an ancient race/family/etc. (so long as she doesn't turn out to be Ditzie!)? Lots of ways for the GM to go with that.

Guns are based on dexterity so you're well covered there. However, I'd encourage you and Eris to come up with some sort of backstory on that particular blade because I don't think Raven would have chosen it if she could not effectively use it. Besides, the notion of a plot twist based on something in Raven's past is simply too good of an opportunity to pass up. :-) Per the LBBs, the broadsword is 1000-1200mm long (40"-48") and weighs approximately 2000-3000 grams (~5-6 lbs) taking the 2500 grams as the median for an 1100mm blade. Having worked with real swords, I can confirm that this length normally requires two hands to wield effectively, especially at the longer length.

Eek, major weirdness has ensued at my house. First, it was the arrival of Exploding Kittens and now it's the arrival of Bears vs. Babies. Both are seriously weird, tongue-in-cheek card games illustrated by the guys that do The Oatmeal. Donning the noise-cancelling earphones pronto! We now return you to your regularly scheduled Traveller adventure. Oh, forgot to mention that the Bears vs. Babies box is covered in fake fur...

I could always say that Raven's vibrobladed broadsword has a pull start built into the handle. She has to give the blade a hard quick pull to get it started and it makes this gosh-awful noise while it's running. 1. Okay, if Raven keeps Broadsword she gets the penalty based on her STR. 2. She can take Sword, instead, and have no penalty. 3. If she takes Sword, but uses it 2 handed, I'll let her do 3D damage with it. So, 1 handed = 2D, 2 handled=3D

Dang, I was pulling for some extra special unforeseen events further down the line because the special sword. ;-) I was hoping for a monomolecular edge vibroblade that leaches power from whatever it is cutting thus extending the battery life. Exploding Kittens is Uno with the numbers filed off. It looks like a lot of fun. The thing (at least for adults) is to enforce fast play.

There are many similarities to Uno, but Uno never had the Cone of Shame. ;-) My son and his friends enjoy it immensely because it doesn't take hours to play a single game. They are usually good for 5-6 games before they're ready to move on. He and I played through a few rounds of Bears vs. Babies so that he can teach his friends to play. Those were, um, somewhat over the top ridiculous in a bizarre fashion. However, it's a great beer and pretzels game just like Exploding Kittens. :-) The box for Bears vs. Babies, by the way, is covered in fake bear fur indicating that no bears were harmed during the making of the game.

You'll be here long enough to refuel and then move forward. So, 24 to 48 hours only. So . . . seems as if the local port currently has a rather long line at the fuel pumps, even for a ship chartered by the same trading company that "handles everything else" besides basic supplies . . . and yet . . . The other [escort] yawns and adds, "We don't get much traffic here . . . " NOTE: I am aware that the "24-48 hours" is intended to allow the PCs time to get into trouble. Yet having only a handful of hours in port before lift can lead to just as much (if not more) dramatic tension. As the time to liftoff ticks closer and closer, Somebody may end up sweating as a "simple" small package deal takes longer than expected to accomplish, while Somebody Else (ahem . . .) may be passed out from a bit too much vino in an unregistered whorehouse . . .

Just a thought: unless Delgado has a significant private courier fleet, there are probably a number of messages - perhaps even a mis-delivered or excess-to-local-needs minor cargo - that we can carry down the line to the next Delgado factory for the local company representatives. Back when I was in the Air Force in Germany, our squadron was tasked with part of the evaluation of a new model of light cargo plane (basically an overgrown Cessna with a bulging belly). In theory, these planes - not yet offically part of the AF's inventory - were supposed to spend a couple of weeks swanning about Europe with empty cargo holds. In practice, the logistics officers at the various bases involved very quickly found items to occupy that off-the-books hold space.

One of the guards grins and laughs, "Not if you insist on the last qualifier."
"Brother Leroy's Bar and Grill is the most outside the line place I'd recommend." says the other guard, "Just don't go alone or let anybody there talk you into leaving with them."
"Yeah, and go armed." the first guard adds nodding. With totally shameless bravado, Peng announces in a loud, breezy voice, "Those escorts recommended Brother Leroy's Bar and Grill. So who's buying?!"Yeah, yeah. I know. Peng isn't telling the whole truth. Are you really surprised?

It also sometimes forgets where I am in a thread, so clicking on "new" just brings me to the first post... Hmmm. It's always done it that way for me. That is, rather than taking me to the "New" post (like most other pbp sites I've used), this one dumps me in at the beginning of the thread and I have to click and scroll from there. I'm betting there's something down deep in the profile settings that's undergone an update and the default condition has now become to dump you at the beginning of a thread. That's what happened to me once on another site. One day when I have the time, I may go digging and find it.
