Sorry if Baltus is sort of quiet... I'm used to a lot less role play in PbP gaming... Fortunately, I think a quiet nature fits Baltus... Frank I am still just getting my feet wet with PbP gaming. I would appreciate a link to what you are used to so I can see the difference. I am used to a lot of live banter around the table, but it goes very quickly when you play face to face and doesn't really slow the game down. It also makes a big difference when you can hear tone of voice and see people. Yea, around a table, more banter works well. Here's near the end of Makofan's OD&D game I played in (also featuring our GM Eris): odd74.proboards.com/thread/10058/southern-group-adventure-19-sark?page=50

It also makes a big difference when you can hear tone of voice and see people. I'm running another Traveller PBP on The Unseen Servant called In The Marches. I've got a variety of role playing styles in that game. It's a mix of long time PBEM/PBP players and relatively newbies to online games...sort of like here? The Archives for the 3rd iteration of my Akus Moby/Quental Main Traveller PBEM are at that link. They start back in June 2012 when this interation started and continue through today. As an aside, the first of the Akus iterations goes back to the late 1990's, and several of the players that started with me then are still playing in one or more of my online games. Archives for the other two iterations are out there somewhere, but I've lost track of where as I've changed computers many times since 199-something.

You know, Sam Rockwell's expression in my avatar pic DOES look a lot like "ill-concealed suspicion."

I'd thought about concocting an ingame explanation for Cyril's absence, but the truth is this is my first PbP game. I spent about a week trying to figure out why no one was posting on the "Getting Organized" thread, but Cyril will be aboard for the voyage. It's too far to walk.

Hi oscar, I've just played a short time in makofan's Traveller game and about 2-3 hours game time in a D game of makofan's and that is my only PbP experience so I am little if any ahead of you.

I spent about a week trying to figure out why no one was posting on the "Getting Organized" thread, but Cyril will be aboard for the voyage. It's too far to walk. Ah! Sorry you got behind. Generally look for the highest numbered thread (001), (002) and so on. That will be the latest segment of the adventure. If you're gone for a few days or get behind otherwise, it's best to just look for that lasted number thread, skim it over and post something. Or just PM me and ask what's going on in the game and I'll give you a synopsis and you can jump in from there. In pbp games players post at different rates. Some folks can, and do post, multiple times a day, others can only manage three or four times a week. The slower posters can feel like they are getting left behind if they come into the forum and there are 30 new posts since the last time they were here. However, faster posters can sometimes feel like the game has stalled if they don't see it moving forward every day. It's tough to regulate. What I try to do is get the faster posters involved in back and forth posts with NPC's and other fast posters. I want these back and forths to keep them busy and involved, but not move the game forward really fast. The actual game will move along somewhat slower than that, so the slower posters don't really get left behind. Doesn't always work and always takes time to adjust the pace of the game so it works for everyone. Again, PM me with questions about where we are if you feel lost. You can also poke me to try to speed things up if the game feels too slow. I might not speed the game up, but I will try to put your PC into a thread that is moving faster. Eris

These past few days have been really hectic at work, so I'm sorry Peng hasn't been as active as he started out being.

Peng's face gains a puzzled look at this . . . obviously not having [googled] the original meaning of the phrase before using it. Yep. Lazy. I laughed till I cried when I read this. I so assumed that you knew the reference and that was why you used it.

I so assumed that you knew the reference and that was why you used it. Oh! I (the player) knew the reference. I'm a big Civil War era fan. But PENG had no real clue. He just thought it would be a cool way to address Raven.

Um, do you mean the War of Northern Aggression Against the Peace-Loving Southern States?

Um, do you mean the War of Northern Aggression Against the Peace-Loving Southern States? Well, I'll go so far as to claim the War of Northern Aggression part of that. But the Peace-Loving part is doubtful. As Rhett Butler complained in Gone With The Wind, my Southern forebearers were more than a little unrealistic in their assumption of an easy Southern victory. There's an old joke about that . . . Young Child, Before The War: "Grandpa, are we going to beat them Yankees?" Grandpa: "Child, we can beat them Yankees with corn shucks!" Young Child, After The War: "Grandpa, I thought you said we could beat them Yankees with corn shucks." Grandpa: "And we coulda done it, too. But the damned Yankees wouldn't FIGHT with corn shucks!"

Near as I can tell, there was nothing really "civil" about that little set-to before, during, or especially after. However, that's likely a topic for another forum on another day. (Does provide a lot of fodder for Traveller campaigns though).

(Does provide a lot of fodder for Traveller campaigns though). And for other science-fiction universes, such as Firefly/Serenity. Joss Whedon has admitted that this universe was directly inspired by his devouring of "The Killer Angels," Michael Shaara's novel about Gettysburg. In fact, the series final episode - "Objects In Space" - was a direct homage to the novel.

Re: the current action.
Until we either get attacked or make it safely into jump, I don't see Peng saying/doing anything more, unless someone calls him on the intercom.

. . . and somebody did. So mouthy ol' Peng just had to put in his several centicreds worth!
His lesson in orbital dynamics is - of course - predicated on Approach Control assigning inbound and outbound traffic vectors which are intentionally well clear of each other, to the extent that a pirate would be forced to announce his ill-intent well in advance of contact, via commencing normally-disallowed maneuvers.

While Peng's suspicions of the SDB's intentions did NOT go out over the comm, I won't mind at all if other characters become independently suspicious as well. All are welcome aboard the Paranoia Express!

Penguin? Did I hear someone chanting "Penguin! Penguin! Penguin!" Someone must be listening to a relatively-recent episode of Gotham on hulu nearby . . . Or else the Traveller Grognards have finally risen in revolt.

Heh, I'm happy so long as Ditzie doesn't decide to drop in. Always makes for an "interesting" time... And besides, you're not paranoid if people really *are* out to get you.
