Hi everyone, Admin Pete here and I want to try my hand at building on what Vile Traveller and makofan have started. I have never played Traveller or even looked at it until this project surfaced and I am intrigued by it and am going to give creating a sub-sector a go. Inspired by the Traveller Out-of-the-Box posts on the Tales to Astound! blog and makofan 's post on the OD&D Discussion forum, what do you think of our chances of putting together a subsector based on the 1977 LBBs? I know we're a small community, but the recent one-page setting contest seems to show there is enough will and talent here. The only question is whether you'd all be interested in doing something like this for old-school CT. The idea is that I would prepare the blank map using only the random method in LBB3 (including '77-style space lanes), and everyone would take it from there to develop their own clusters or individual worlds (in communication with your neighbours if you feel so inclined - we found this was the most fun part when we developed the Spica Sector for Spica Publishing years ago). I am rolling up the initial data just like (well mostly) Vile Traveller , did and I will let you know when it is ready for anyone who wants to, to jump in and help. I am planning on claiming a good sized chunk myself.

Step 1: World OccurrenceThe standard rule is 4-6 on d6 means there is a world in any particular hex and that is what I used here. Going through the blank sub-sector hex grid, I end up with 42 worlds in the hexes listed below. I don't have any good way to create the map and makofan is going to do that for me and create the space lanes, as I don't have the 1977 rules to look at (yet). 01. 0101 02. 0102 03. 0103 04. 0104 05. 0106 06. 0108 07. 0202 08. 0204 09. 0205 10. 0206 11. 0302 12. 0303 13. 0305 14. 0306 15. 0308 16. 0401 17. 0402 18. 0403 19. 0405 20. 0406 21. 0409 22. 0410 23. 0502 24. 0503 25. 0504 26. 0506 27. 0508 28. 0601 29. 0603 30. 0605 31. 0607 32. 0608 33. 0610 34. 0701 35. 0702 36. 0708 37. 0709 38. 0710 39. 0802 40. 0803 41. 0805 42. 0806

Step 2: Starport TypeThis is a straightforward 2d6 look-up table and to quote Vile Traveller , I'm going to refrain from making any comments during generation, so as to leave the field clear of possible influence for co-creators. Here's what we get: 01. 0101 C 02. 0102 C 03. 0103 B 04. 0104 C 05. 0106 E 06. 0108 C 07. 0202 B 08. 0204 A 09. 0205 B 10. 0206 D 11. 0302 A 12. 0303 E 13. 0305 C 14. 0306 C 15. 0308 C 16. 0401 C 17. 0402 X 18. 0403 B 19. 0405 E 20. 0406 X 21. 0409 B 22. 0410 E 23. 0502 B 24. 0503 B 25. 0504 B 26. 0506 C 27. 0508 C 28. 0601 X 29. 0603 B 30. 0605 D 31. 0607 A 32. 0608 D 33. 0610 A 34. 0701 C 35. 0702 B 36. 0708 E 37. 0709 C 38. 0710 A 39. 0802 C 40. 0803 B 41. 0805 E 42. 0806 E

I'm opting out of this one due to RL busyness. But wow at the interconnectedness of the trade routes....

This is a very connected sub-sector.

Makofan, 0103, 0302, 0409, and 0710 are missing from your map... This is a very connected sub-sector. Also is there a reason the maps are at a smaller/lessor resolution than the maps in the Murkhill Subsector and how difficult is it to change that?

This is a very connected sub-sector. I noticed that too. I count four worlds without trade routes (two X starports, 0402 and 0601, and two E starports, 0805 and 0806). I also note an error from the first map to later ones: 0406 originally had a B starport, but now has an X starport, while retaining trade routes.

Here is the problem. On one list, 0406 is showing as spaceport B. On another list, it is showing as X. X makes more sense for a tech level 2 world.
Once @perilousdreamer decides which he wants, I will modify the map appropriately

All those space lanes to 0406 disappear and there is no longer one huge connected set of worlds...

Ah, that busts up the connectivity... All those space lanes to 0406 disappear and there is no longer one huge connected set of worlds... Unfortunately true. Unlike 0601, the neighboring worlds to 0406 do not have trade routes between them that "pass over" 0406. Were the routes to 0406 simply deleted, or were the surrounding worlds' routes to one another rerolled and missed?
