In case you were not aware, the Internet Archive has been undergoing attacks for a couple of weeks now. They have been hit several times with Denial of Service Attacks and repeatedly. They also were hacked and 31 million email addresses and passwords (encrypted, but) were stolen from members. They say none of their data was deleted and they are working round the clock to improve security and to get back on line. Hopefully in a few more days they will be back, then everyone needs to change their passwords. Apparently the motive was in support of Hamas by the group claiming credit and the Internet Archive was attacked because they were a softer target that the US government.

This stuff worries me because our government(s) and industries insist our lives become ever more reliant upon digital devices. I get the convenience but I fear having my entire existence on my cellphone, from my finances to my medical information. Too many bad actors who could destroy my life with the click of a mouse

I get the convenience but I fear having my entire existence on my cellphone, from my finances to my medical information. Too many bad actors who could destroy my life with the click of a mouse I am right there with you. All the people in the hurricane area are dealing with the fact that with the internet down, credit accounts do not work, only cash works. With digital only money, without internet you are also completely broke. I use a flip phone, not a smart phone, I make and take voice calls, I read but do not send texts and I use it for the often mandatory 2FA. Beyond that I don't use the phone at all.

Timely conversation and today's post on Grognardia focuses on this particular issue (in relation to a convention he attended.) That is a great essay, I detest dual factor authentication and most especially if it is mandatory. We are on the verge of being where we could lose access to an email account and have no way to ever gain access again. Unplugged
