How many of us are going to buy a copy of The Making of Original Dungeons & Dragons: 1970-1976? Hopefully the price will come down, but right now it is priced at $99 which is way outside my budget.
Once the book is released we will add a poll to this post.

"Tentatively raises hand..." I will but not a new one. I have no doubt at some point a disillusioned soul will put their copy up for sale on the "Bay" or elsewhere and this vulture will silently be watching and waiting to pounce

I'd like to pretend I won't, but I know I will.

I'd like to pretend I won't, but I know I will. Yeah, I hear that. But finances will keep me from buying it for a while anyway.

If it's like their recent Dragonlance boardgame, it will wind up at Ollie's for only $10. If I see it anywhere near that price, then I'll be all over it.

I wouldn't mind having it, but I won't pay list price for that's for certain.

So I take it no one here jumped at this initial release? I've heard/seen mixed results to date. And not many at that, though it looks pretty. As said previously i'll wait until someone wants to offload their copy at a reduced price then maybe...

As said previously i'll wait until someone wants to offload their copy at a reduced price then maybe... I can't afford it, I would like to get it, there is stuff in it I want to see. However, I imagine that it will go out of print, it will be rare and stay expensive.

So I managed to glom on to a copy at a slightly reduced price (slightly obsessive here and found someone willing to off-load.) Initial impressions, this is a massively heavy "coffee table" style tome. Part of the reason is the heavy weight and thick pages, slightly lighter than cardstock. Comes with sewn in ribbon book marks and included two separate ad slicks that have facsimiles of the old yellow (original not AD&D) character sheet on one side. It really is for the most part reprints in larger size of the 1st print OD&D box set then Greyhawk/BlackMoor/Eldritch Wizardry supplements. Also included is a reprint of (they claim) Gygax's original mimeographed 1st draft of the game and a few "zines" such as SR and Europa. Of course the preface and intro both make obligatory nods (read apologies for tone in the game) to "wokeism. They state that most early players were white males and the game could be interpreted to posses "baggage" that might trigger the more "neuro-diverse" in the gaming world at large. For the most part the content of the book is opinion free and gives those unwilling to pay the unrealistically high prices that original prints demand an opportunity to see the humble beginning of our hobby. Happy to have it in my stash and will report more as I explore the book.

One aspect that caught me unaware as I perused the "1st draft" was the concept that a Fighter's AC gained a +1 bonus every 4 - 5 levels. Presumably due to combat experience or, perhaps a carryover of some kind from Chainmail?

I'll be interested in seeing any other observations you may offer in the future.
