Basilisks are found in central Kargebal, between the lands of the Bedouin and the Tuareg.
They can be found at desert oases, where one can find the prized Afrikkan basil, growing wild. These are often places of great (and deadly) beauty: weathered perfect statues should serve as a warning to the desert traveller. The thing about petrification is that it is said that one remains conscious, in some kind of a way, although, lacking physical perceptual contact with the outer world, the soul goes insane.
Among the desert nomads, there are lejends of the immortal ones, heroes who were turned to stone by the gods, in the quest for the sacred basil plant, which is said to be a sovereign remedy against all disorders of the central and sympathetic nervous system. It is said that those are skilled in the Aegyptian art of the Hekau can bring the immortal ones back to life, but, if they do, then, the immortal ones will die.
In any event, great care is recommended, should one dare to approach the oases of Kargebal. Some of these are also actually the center of ruins, of an old and unknown civilisation.
