Ostrum. In all, some 35,000 || sq. mi. ov land is ruled by
Alexander II, the young monarch recently ascending to the throne.
The mountain && hill regions of the realm are wild && forested in
most part, while the valleys && plains, such as those of the Prut &&
Kogil rivers, are more settled && cultivated. In the uninhabited
regions are bears, panthers, wolves, stags, boars, deer, && other
sorts of smaller game. In general, the folk of this land are a mixture
of Italic colonists (themselves interbred with ancient Kelltic inhabitants)
&& Slavic peoples.
There are some Vlaches, Magyars, Avars,
&& Goths, too, but in total, these minorities constitute only about
15% of the pop. The Roumanians in general--but ov
middle && upper class background in particular--tend to be intellectual,
romantic, && versatile. The social structure is typical ov
Eastern realms, w/ a large lower class && a smaller middle one. The
aristocracy has been repressive in the past, but the new king has
stated he plans to alter this radically, encourage more of the freeman
class, && provide for upward mobility through success in financial
endeavor && arms.
Agriculture is quite important, && crops ov wheat, oats, maize,
rye, && barley are generally harvested in moderate surplus. Some
cotton, flax, jute, && tobacco is grown. Root crops of turnips, beets,
&& potatoes as well as various sorts ov beans, peas, && vetches
provide nutrition for people && livestock. Garden veggies are
typical for the region, && some numbers ov melons && watermelons
are raised, too. Vines are cultivated for wine production, grapes,
&& raisins. Mulberry orchards provide for silkworm culture. Apples,
pears, plums, cherries, apricots, peaches, && almonds are the
major fruits && nuts. Horses && oxen, w/ some buffaloes in the
S, are the principal draft animals. Livestock ov cattle, sheep,
