Who wants to participate in a collaborative setting thread?
How about each poster just adds something about the setting (world, magic, whatever)? Anything you want, but it can't contradict what's gone before.
Anyone?
I'll start:
Long-distance sailing is unknown.

Until, once every handful of centuries, the fog lifts for a decade or so signalling a short era of feverish nautical reinventions and exploration.

The gods, inactive in the world for nearly a decade, have suddenly become active in the world again.

Once great civilizations have collapses and been eradicated during the centuries of fog-induced isolation. Kings, Priests and Philosophers of the surviving civilizations are clamoring to know what caused these former advanced island states to fall; are they going to be the next to fall?

Kings, Priests and Philosophers of the surviving civilizations are clamoring to know what caused these former advanced island states to fall; are they going to be the next to fall? An adventuring party has returned, they suffered greatly and lost many men, but they've brought back large fragments of old books that tell of many cycles of the rise and fall of many civilizations over tens of thousands of years. Scholars are busy trying to find clues to what happened and whether or not it can be avoided.

Does it know of other peoples? Are there other islands?

The script of the book is peculiar and weird, causing some who have tried deciphering its secrets to have paralyzing night terrors and stuttered speech.JM.

Some of the most adventurous or foolhardy captains have sailed to the edges of the known islands and found remains of gigantic stone causeways that may have connected some of the islands. Rumors of communities subsisting amongst ruins built upon these causeways persist in the lowest seaside taverns. As do rumors of the ruins being inhabited by monsters and rife with treasure! Who built these stone monstrosities? Dwarves, Men, the Gods themselves before they abandoned the world? Who can say?
