Cleric vs. Vampire (or Major Undead) Test of Faith

We're all aware of the Cleric's Turn Undead power but what about having a battle of faith vs. fear with major undead like Vampires? One of my favorite books is Salem's Lot and the 1979 version has the following scene in it where the local Priest faces the Master. (Start watching around the2:30 mark if you want to skip.).
Fright Night has another example of the faith test and you don't need to skip at all to see it.
I'm sure there are other movies with similar scenes but I think you get the point. What do you all think? Is that what happens when a Cleric fails the Turn Undead check against a more powerful undead creature OR do yo think a house rule might be in order? Maybe the Vampire could roll on the Turn Undead chart against the Clerics HD or level?
This idea didn't just come to me out of the blue. I was looking at blogs and other forums for ideas to post about here and I saw this post and thoguht it was worth brainstorming about here.
