How do you do your attribute checks in OD&D?

How do you do your attribute checks in OD&D? I've tried a D20 roll in the past, but I have also grown fond of using either a single or 2D6 roll with higher being better. |

I have used 3d6 roll under for average difficulty, 4d6 roll under for more difficult and 5d6 roll under for very difficult. For easy no roll needed.

1d20 roll under the attribute, if difficult 1d20 + 1d6 roll under and if virtually impossible 2d20+2d8 roll under.
