One section of the PHB that always intrigued me upon reading it was at the bottom of page 8 in the right-hand column. Under the section on CREATING THE PLAYER CHARACTER, the book states "it was initially contemplated to term character power as rank, spell complexity was to be termed power, and monster strength was to be termed as order.". For some reason, I prefer that. I know it really means nothing and adds absolutely nothing to the game but I do dig it. I kind of wish one of the semi-clone or neo-clone games would have gone with those terms.
How about you? Do you have anything that sticks out to you?

I thought I had memorized that book, but it seems not. I also like these terms -- a lot! People are very used to just calling everything 'level.' But I agree with you, it would be cool. I don't have the PHB handy, but I'll try to take a look and see if I can find anything as good...
