Have you used Carcosa and if so to what extent? I have read Carcosa, and thought about using it, but so far have not used any of it.

Unfortunately not. Haven't got the book, but I've read a lot about it, and what I've read has inspired me a LOT. ( Admin Pete, have yet another Exalt by the way, for all the tremendous work you've put down on this board!)

I said "yes" because I used the Spawn of Shub-Niggurath generator in the original version to roll up a monster that I used in a dungeon back when it was new. I love Geoffrey's generators, even though I don't use the specific Carcosa setting as a referee.
I have played in a PBP Carcosa game. It's a brilliant setting.

Thought about it and would like to give it shot. Gotta find some players for it though.

Never seen Carcosa, but maybe it will be available again one of these days.

I've read it and used it for inspiration when it comes to adding technology and aliens to my campaign world. I think it does a great job of showing how a few super high-tech weapons/armor/items might affect an otherwise very low tech setting.
I'm inspired also by the format and the minimalism. I like how Geoffrey stripped out everything that didn't fit with his vision and modified a couple more things to fit. That's obviously not the only fruitful way to construct a campaign setting (there's a special magic that comes from including everything + the kitchen sink and figuring out a rationale for why/how it's all there--a la Arduin) but it's one that appeals to my psyche quite a bit. I feel comfortable with minimalism.
I like his format so much that I've made several renditions of my own Supplement V (Lost Continent) to act as our home game rulebook.

I have ran Carcosa with LotFP. I've strongly considered running it with OD&D, and probably will one day. Usually in my campaigns I put a portal to Carcosa for my players somewhere, but they never stumble upon it. The LotFP book is one of the best quality gaming books I've bought, but I really wish I could find the original OD&D version Geoffrey released.

I usually farm the hell out of Carcosa because it's so Lovcraftian, but actually run it as an ongoing campaign? No. I would like to combine it with Dark Sun and Blair's Planet Algol and OD&D the hell out of it some day.

As a side note, I have the original (LBB-style) Carcosa release in hardcopy, but never looked at the LotFP version; is it worth getting?

I've been trying to hunt down the LBB-style for years now! I believe the LotFP version has 2 things per hex instead of just one. There is an adventureish in the back as well, that I'm not sure is in the LBB-style booklet. Pretty sure LotFP is also based on the original and not the expurgated version (not sure which you have). It is a beautiful book at least.

The LBB one has most of the main ideas, but the LOTFP one has awesome art and (I think) more cool stuff. I've never done a side by side, though.

Thanks for the exalt! I'm the kid who never says a word for years and finally blurts out, "cereal cold." Everyone is surprised, but then he says, "up until now, everything was okay." I did a quick comparison, and the unexpurgated SuppV version I have stands up reasonably well against the LotFP release. I think you lined out the major differences, dizzysaxophone. One thing that I am really going to pour over for ideas is Narcosa. It looks like it has some wonderful stuff that could give a setting a touch of the alien.

I stole the concept for the Sorcerer class and the psionic powers from Carcosa (although I use the powers as Sorcerer and Assassin abilities).

Never used it, but have thought about it, the thing holding me back is I would have to tone it down too much to get people into it.

Another of the many inspirational resources I keep at hand though I've never used it as a campaign.
