At the beginning of the book it has "A Brief History of Pre-Carter Barsoom."
It starts 23,000,000 years ago, when the Valley of Dor lay on the equator.
Has anyone else seen this book or has any of you read it?

Just over a half million years ago, the oceans were still full and all was well. Then the oceans started drying up and the hordes of six limbed green giants decimated the black, white and yellow men of Barsoom and most retreated to their hidden redoubts. But other mixed and became the sturdy red men of Barsoom who pushed back the green hordes and built the current cities. Also scientists built the atmosphere plants to maintain a breathable atmosphere and they remain to this day.

During the desperate years when all the races of the men of Barsoom were constantly on the move and constantly fighting with the green hordes, scientists also with genetic manipulation changed reproduction to egg laying and now the children of the men of Barsoom step from their eggs fully developed except in size and their education starts immediately.

The red men of Barsoom also built the canals to bring melt water from the poles to the cities. One struggle was to convince the green hordes that this benefited them too, so that they learned not to damage or destroy the canals.

The five major ocean and numerous sea beds that once were are now covered with yellow moss-like vegetation.

The moss like vegetation has spread on the former lowlands, plains, tablelands, hills, plateaus and mountains of Barsoom except for the most arid areas which have only naked rock, a few swamp or marshy areas, a few small streams, one or two rivers and a sea at the south pole.

There are also a few isolated small patches of forest which are highly prized.

I don't think I knew that the women of Barsoom originally gave live birth and where changed to egg layers instead.

Right now I don't remember if that was ever spelled out in the books themselves or not.
