I think you will all agree that first level characters would be trained for several years by higher level folk. Don't you also think that they would want thier tranees to live and be successful? They would pass on every scrap of knowledge that they had, agin you would agreeSo here is one of my main thoughts on DMing: What ever the player knows, the character knows. I am really interested in hearing your thoughts on this!
"Groot!!!!"
Rule #1 is NO OBSERVERS! I broke this once and yelled at the guy for being distracting, never again!

How to drive an automobile? Computer Programming? That doesn't seem right at all.

Rule #1 is NO OBSERVERS! I broke this once and yelled at the guy for being distracting, never again! You yelled at the guy? I've always allowed truly interested people observe for a bit to see if they want to join in. I got several players by allowing them to watch for a few minutes then they decided to play.

He was havinga loud conversation with my player who was distracted. I have a quick temper IRL.

No, I don't agree, I think first levels are pretty untrained, I think most adventurers get into it for a number of different reasons, but training is "on the job" and hard won by the seat of the pants. I don't think there is any reason to think that first levels had the benefit of years of training before they earn their first experience point. If you want to use that conceit, then start them all at 3rd level. But I think the whole meta-gaming is a thing jerks say to try to get players to play their characters like idiots instead of like they are smart with common sense. If the player ran into an owlbear with a previous character, it is stupid to expect them to pretend they don't know what an owlbear is with a new character.

I run very low level so this flowed from that

Rule #1 is NO OBSERVERS! I broke this once and yelled at the guy for being distracting, never again! I really don't like this, I love having observers. My original game had (within a few months) and audience of 10-15 or more people just hanging out in the room were we played. Every inch of that room was filled. But this was the 1970s, and no one was talking, they were listening, reading, studying just hanging out with us. Once everyone played at the same time and that is when I ran ~30 players at the same time, it was awesome. We were in the 20s playerwise several times, but we always had that audience. That is one thing I like about playing in a public space, observers turn into players.

The Shakes
This horrible disease is 100% contagious. It is characterized by very high fever and horrible uncontrolled mussle contractions accompanied by chills. No sentient being will willingly come anywhere near a person with it.
The only time a PC will contract it happen to every player who misses a game. It is why the character is not at the game. So yes it is a hand wave.
