This hit my FaceBook feed and the demo trailer already hit me personal on several fronts; my own growing up with D&D and now seeing my son grow up with autism and (and slowly getting into D&D): The filmers blurb: Hey! I’m a Scottish filmmaker, and I’ve just launched a kickstarter to complete my first feature-length documentary, Session Zero. It’s about my brothers and their friends (who I’ve been filming over three years) growing up whilst playing Dungeons & Dragons. It explores how D&D helps them through the turbulence of coming of age, anxiety and autism diagnoses. Over this time my brother got very into AD&D and tried to teach it to the party! If you’re interested you can watch the trailer and help make the project happen here! -

I think, most of us, found refuge in this phenomenal hobby during our formative years. I know I did. And I've made some equally phenomenal friends playing this game of imagination. We surprised one friend when his Father passed when we all showed up at the memorial. He expect one of us, a college friend, not the whole group. And to have his Aunt and Uncle ask (parents of his Cousin who was unable to attend and also played the game with us) "Are you Doug's D&D friends?" was a badge of honor. I think we surprised them with our being relatively normal, if humorously snarky, adults.

I like this that a lot of us found this hobby as 18-19 years old or older and other found it as teens or even younger. I was 19 when the game found me.
