I have to agree with him. That's a terrible change and it should not be in the PHB. One thing that AD&D got 100% correct is the way it split up the game information in the PHB and DMG. Just look how slim the PHB is in comparison. This change will lead to confusion and arguments and Monty Haul campaigns.

I agree completely. This whole notion that players can make a roll or use a bonus to automatically overcome ANY AND ALL challenges during a game is ludicrous.
