How would you describe yourself from ten years old up to the current Day? Are Nerd, or Geek, or Dork any part of that description? Why or why not?
Here are some definitions, but these are NOT the definitions I grew up with.
A Nerd is someone who is passionate about learning/being smart/academia.
A Geek is someone who is passionate about some particular area or subject, often an obscure or difficult one.
A Dork is someone who has difficulty with common social expectations/interactions.
What I grew up with WERE these definitions.
A Nerd is a foolish or contemptible person who lacks social skills.
A Geek is a performer at a carnival or circus whose show consists of bizarre or grotesque acts.
A Dork is a contemptible, socially inept person.
So my view of these terms is colored by my childhood, when all of these terms were the vilest of insults. The new sanitized definitions, just don't exist for me.

I'm a "classic underachiever" like Matthew Broderick's character in WarGames. I'm not a computer wiz by any stretch but I am too smart for my own good. Could have gone to college for something useful but ended up with a liberal arts degree and working in sales/customer service for the bulk of my career. Done okay and certainly don't live to work like many I know. I more than make time for many of my favorite hobbies including tabletop RPGs!

Well, at least I read something positive on the Internet today... Using the new definitions, I would say that for the early period, I was thought of as a nerd but was just confused. Slowly, I have ripened into a geek, but my particular areas never come up in conversation, so I just seem to be no one.

When I grew up, all of those terms were insults and used as such, so I cannot really embrace any of them to describe myself. Even using the current definitions, though I don't really fit in with any group. In college I had three different groups, I hung out with. The D&D group (about 30 people), the non D&D group (about 30+ people), both in the honors college and then I hung out with a group of "normal" students. I didn't really fit anywhere, except at certain times. In school (1-12) I was super, super shy and I did not start to get past that until I was around 30, although when I started working, I was not shy on the job, dealing with clients. I identify with the underachiever part and I had one boss that told me that sometimes I was so smart it was scary. I have had a talent for seeing things and connections and making intuitive leaps that other people can't/don't and yet other times I am clueless compared to other people.
With the current definitions listed above, I would say I am a combination of all three. Although I would say that I am passionate about many particular areas and subjects. I have too many interests, which makes it hard to get anything done, since I am easily distracted and next thing I know I have 200 tabs open in my browser. But I can also concentrate and do a ton of work in short time. I think of myself as having a poor memory, there is so much that I can't remember, but the people who know me IRL think I have a great memory. I think I am an introvert and still have the core of shyness, but people I know all describe me as an extrovert.
