Do you allow Wands, Rods and Staves to be recharged? Assuming that you do allow it, what is the method for doing it?

Do you allow Wands, Rods and Staves to be recharged? Assuming that you do allow it, what is the method for doing it? I would ALLOW it, but I can't recall it coming up very many times; maybe my memory is failing me. I do recall the characters going on a quest to an ancient temple and recharging a staff on the altar. I imagine I would have a few ways now, but I just need to come up with them.

- they have a different type of magic (they are all relics from another world or something) that cannot be recharged or restored
- recharge by casting the spell twice on the item, 5% chance per spell level that it will fail.

I think there should be a way to recharge them that is less expensive than creating them in the first place.

I don't do charges, vastly prefer usable 2 or 3 times a day

I don't do charges, vastly prefer usable 2 or 3 times a day So they have 2 or 3 charges per day and self recharge overnight, is what it sounds like you are saying.

I allow it. First for example if you have two second level spells, you can use those slots to cast up to four first level spells. So a Magic-User could cast Enchant on a wand and then cast Sleep on the Wand as many times as he has spell slots and then the next day do it again until the wand was fully charged with Sleep Spells or he could cast a combination of different spells up to the capacity of the wand. Same thing applies to rods and staves. Of course while he is doing this, the other PCs are either sitting twiddling their thumbs while day after day passes or they go off on an adventure without that character. On the other hand a higher level Magic-User could go on an adventure very well armed with a couple of wands, a rod and a staff.

That sounds pretty reasonable, although I think it should be more expensive in both time and money.

Changed my mind on this: soak 'em in a mana river. 10% cumulative chance per recharge that the item becomes unstable and does something bad, destroying itself at least, when first used after the recharge.
