I hope the forum does something for this, it would be great if this is the center of the celebration. Since this is the place where the spirit of OD&D is truly celebrated, it makes sense for this forum to lead the way on this.

One thought that I had, along with the monthly writing prompts we have talked about is to come up with a set of 31 prompts to use for January of 2024, to post every day for 31 days on our blogs (for those that want to do it) I would like to come up with those by next April, so that we all have eight months to work on it, so that the work is mostly done before Jan '24 rolls around. So no stress.

I might do a blog, looks like I have got time to think about it. If I do I will make sure that " Open Ended Original Edition Old School Fantasy Adventure Sandbox Role Playing Games (OEOEFASRPG) The Open-Ended Sandbox Exploration of Dungeons, Wilderness and Cities." appears on the blog. Also link to this forum and TPDs blog on my new blog, if I do one. Also if everyone posts links to their blogs in this thread, I will go back and add everyone's blog to my blog roll if I do a blog. Wow, not sure if I could do a blog, but I would share links. I like the OEOEFASRPG. I wonder how long it will take Google to pick it up? Not too long I would think, now that it is in the Announcement up top.

I am too old to start a blog, but would like to see this celebration really take off from here. WotC should be shamed for ignoring a big run up to the 50th Anniversary of OD&D and for taking D&D down a really dark path with this "One D&D" nonsense.

Several years ago we picked the last Friday of January 1974 - the 25th as the date that D&D was published, since no one knows the exact date it went on sale. So we celebrate the 25th of January every year as the publication date of D&D. We are down to approximately 15 months until the 50th Anniversary. If you have heard anything, please post it and also lets start making our own plans to celebrate. Maybe those who blog can get started preparing so we can saturate the Internet on January 25th, 2024 with an Anniversary Celebration. You are right, we need to plan this out and start posting about the beginning of November 2023 leading up to it. Go for it.

TPD can tell you I am sure, but as a guess I would say step one post it here, step two post in on any other social media that you frequent. With no Google+ where it could be shared automatically it is a bit more work than it used to be. Here is what I suggest. First here is what I personally will do: 1. When I make a blog post, my usual readers will see it. 2. I will share each blog post here to the new forum it has been suggested that we set up. Hopefully we will have discussion here around that blog posts AND all the others by all of us that will be linked here. 3. I will share each of my blog posts on each of the following: A. MeWe - 3,100+ followers plus the groups I run Ruins Group at MeWe - 1585 members and it is pretty active B. Twitter - 1,000+ followers and I rarely post there, so once posting ramps up that should grow C. Instagram - 59 followers, and I have only posted twice there in the last three years. D. Facebook - Halenar Frosthelm account have only rarely posted here and will post in the ruins group there and share for public sharing. 4. I will periodically share you all's posts to these platforms as well. 5. If any of you have a presence on any other Social Media platform, post it here in this thread and I would suggest that all of you use your social media accounts to share these posts widely once we start doing the them. 6. I saw the suggestion to post about the 50th Anniversary from Jan 2023 through Dec 2024. Here is what I suggest, start posting on your blog old school OD&D posts starting in January 2023 a few posts a month say one every 10 days or more often if you want to, but every 10 days would be good. Spend most of 2023 building up a readership and I will share your posts to help with that. 7. Then what I suggest is about October 1 (Dave Arneson Day) 2023 we start posting about the 50th Anniversary of D&D, and that first post will be about Dave Arneson's part in D&D and we promote the Anniversary coming up in January 2024 and 2024 as the Whole Year Anniversary of D&D, but specifically the Anniversary of OD&D - Original D&D. 8. I also would suggest that you share my blog posts and each others blog posts widely on your various social media outlets. 9. On our blogs we can also link to our discussion here once that has started in the new forum area it has been proposed that we build. 10. I will also make my Ruins group at MeWe a focus point for the celebration. So please post suggestions, social media platforms to share our posts at and anything else you have that would be relevant to this endeavor. Wow, those are great ideas PD, I don't have a blog, but I will look into doing that. Doing one post a most and maybe a second post to share links to other peoples first posts would be my limit along with taking eight months to write the 31 posts for Jan '24 and have them all ready to drop. Can we really get this kicked off by Jan 2023? Starting a blog is daunting.

50 years...wow...just wow! I missed out on the game's humble beginning coming to it in 1980 (September to be exact) and haven't looked back. Ever so thankful for the fun I'm still having and the wonderful community of gamers I've fell in with, especially this unruly lot here ;-)

I'm going to take a hard look ahead and make my best guess at the coming year of posts for my blog. I would like to offer the biggest variety of games and gaming subjects in my posts next year. In addition to my usual posts, examples include the following. Fantasy Wargaming: I want to do an overview post and see if anything sticks for further posts. The Fantasy Trip: Melee, Wizard, and In The Labyrinth has more in common with a later generation of rpg design that would include ideas such as point based character generation, but it's done in a simpler old school style; there are only a few stats (ST, DX, and IQ) and most everything is handled with rolls of D6s. Yes, you can see that is shares some base DNA with GURPS but TFT is much more accessible and lightweight. Arduin: No explanation needed. Speed Pain: Billed as a "one coat solution" by The Army Painter. I would like to try the basic set out and see how it works. The videos look intriguing. My Secret Project: Complete the players part of the rules. More: There's ALWAYS more... I should be further along in having some of these ready and waiting but I've been fortunate that we haven't had any large amounts of downtime at work or even a slow down during winter. Unfortunately, it cuts into my free time.

We have two play-by-post games going on here, it's not quite the face to face gaming of 1974, but I think it's pretty good in a way that makes use of modern tech.
