REVISION IN PROGRESS...
Well, it's been a few months since I last posted an update on this project. And, as I've mentioned in other threads, my life has been really busy these last months too, which explains the lack of updates. I've also used this time to step back a little in order to reflect and contemplate where I'm going with this, and how I want the outcome to turn out. My vision for the setting itself is pretty clear and strong - I've made a few changes but nothing major really. It has more to do with the feeling of the setting and what I want to emphasize and how I should convey all of this in a concise but inspirational way. Now more than ever I try to focus on the feeling of the setting, rather than the facts of it. The culture gaming aspect that was a part of the project initially is pretty much left behind by now, and the arabesque features have been toned down. Descriptional keywords would be pulpy, adventurous, savage, primitive and exotic, with added elements of science fantasy for flavour. My idea of adventures in this setting is episodic and exploring, hexcrawl/sandbox-inspired. At the heart of it all, it's still about Conan and John Carter, about Frank Frazetta and Richard Corben. And a bit of Lovecraft for good measure. Well, and some alien high tech...
The rules have been troublesome for me all the way, and I've just started over once again. I know what I want them to achieve, I've just had doubts about how to achieve that... So I'm looking at some different alternatives at the moment, having some new ideas to ponder.
I'll keep you posted...

Necromancer do you want me to go ahead and start your campaign forum? Hmm... after I've given it a lot of thought, that might be a good idea, actually. I've got tons of ideas still in my head, but given a campaign forum of my own might spur me into getting it down on paper (well, computer...) finally. Thanks, Admin Pete, have an Exalt!

A minor update to let you guys in on what goes on in the Xul camp. Since my campaign setting got this sub board I haven't had the time to start any additional threads just yet, but it's coming, don't worry. It's just that inbetween work, taking care of the kids (illness season at daycare...), chores and the odd art commissions, there's been little spare time left for other things. However, I'm in the process of slowly compiling and structuring information about Xul to be posted here, and I also feel the original rules I'm trying to develop are starting to come along quite satisfactory. I've also started to sketch the cover image I intend to use - it's going to be an unashamed homage to Frank Frazetta and Michael Whelan, and so far it looks pretty good (if I may say so, myself!). Stay tuned, I'll keep you posted!

How is this going Necromancer , this is really good and I have been exploring and I love your art work. Mega-Mega! Hi, Mighty Darci, and thanks a lot! Well, to be honest I haven't worked much on this project for the last few months. Unfortunately real life has kept me rather busy. Instead of trying to force the work on this, I decided to take a step back for a while and then pick it up again when I get the time and energy for it. But don't worry, I will continue eventually, as I consider this my main project. I also have a few other projects that I haven't revealed much about yet... stay tuned and we'll see what happens...

Great, I would love to see what you do with this. Other projects too! Any hints? Concerning Xul, I'm thinking along the lines of an original rules set accompanied by modular pieces dedicated to different geographical areas of interest with descriptions, guidelines on how to use them in play and random generation tables to help kick-start adventures. Hints? Well, yeah, why not! I'm seriously contemplating my own "fantasy retro BRP clone" (BRP as in Basic roleplaying, that is - the rules engine known from Call of Cthulhu, Runequest etc). I'm striving for an old school feel, stripped down rules, perhaps the occasional tweak. It started out as some sort of generic homage to my own roots of roleplaying, but then I came up with an idea for a setting that I've been meaning to post about... Also, a minimalist fantasy RPG - somewhere between Searchers of the Unknown and the Lone Wolf game books. Mostly for fun, and an exercise in game design for me! Then there's a whole bunch of "early-stage-cool-ideas-for-projects-whenever-I'll-get-the-time-to-do-anything", including: - fantasy RPG designed for solo playing - psychedelic fantasy RPG (part art project, part game design exercise) - post-apocalyptic retro BRP clone - retro science fiction RPG focused on exploring - horror RPG set in the time period late 60s to early 80s, inspired by B-movies, cult horror with adventure structures inspired by cinematic dramaturgy - post-apocalypse meets the wild west, quite gonzo ...and I've probably forgotten a few... Then I do the occasional art commissions, and I'm also thinking about starting up a blog (everyone else seems to have one, so I might as well do it too...) but that will probably be in Swedish. So, well... there you are! Thanks for all the likes and showing interest, Mighty Darci - please have an Exalt!

Thank you for the Exalt Necromancer , you deserve one a lot more than I do. (Here you go) Thank you for the great list of stuff you are working on, that sounds fantastic, I really hope you get more free time (in a good way). I really like - post-apocalypse meets the wild west, quite gonzo . If you ever do a pbp for that I would want to play.

You deserve an Exalt just as much as anybody bringing creativity and positivity to this board! As for pbp - well, I've been thinking about that for quite a while now. So far lack of time and experience has held me back. Maybe someday...
