Unless I forgot by page 3 (curse my short term memory!) haven't seen the cause of non-mapping syndrome. NMS strikes victims who have been introduced to games via videogames at home. Such victims have been led to believe that videogames are RPGs and are enabled by legal pushers such as Sony, Wii, and Nintendo. When introduced to real RPGs, they expect a great and powerful computer god to display maps for them and have difficulty with personal transactions with NPCs. It is only if they stick around long enough to realize they can try anything and literally influence the world, that they learn excitement.
Of course the problem then is to avoid becoming a Studio C sketch.

As the ref, watching the players map is one of the things I really enjoy. Over the years my players have thoroughly learned the importance of mapping and it has become a team effort for them and not something just one player does.
