Do you allow a PC or NPC to fight while holding a lantern or torch? Please explain your answer.

I allow it with a penalty. For a lantern you get a -2 to hit and a -4 to your AC (example AC 2 is reduced to AC 6) For a torch you get a -2 to hit and a -2 to your AC (example AC 2 is reduced to AC 4) The penalty is less for the torch since you can use it in limited ways offensively or defensively, although the attacker might just cut if off and leave you holding a stump of the torch. With a lantern they might shatter it and you would be covered in hot oil. (if so, take one die of damage for each of two rounds)

No, if you are trying to hold a lantern, they get a free attack.

I allowed it with a -2 penalty because they're holding the torch and trying not to drop it while fighting.

Yes, maybe with an even bigger penalty.

No, I use a light stone and torches are for emergency use. I've never used a lantern.

Yes with a torch with a penalty, but not with a lantern.

I don't allow it. You have to set them down and focus. Unless you are using the torch itself as a weapon.
