If you enjoy the classic Doctors (1-7) there are dedicated DOCTOR WHO Classic channels on PlutoTV and the ROKU Channel that stream a large variety of episodes from the original series. I've seen episodes from all 7 of the first Doctors as well as even catching a few regenerations. Both channels are free streaming channels.

Tom Baker for the win ;-) I do love me some older DR Who where the show relied on the actors/characters and stories and NOT on the special effect budget. I don't begrudge the renewed version though, it's brought numerous new fans into the fold.

here in NY back in the 1980's they'd have a Saturday night line up on PBS starting with Monty Python. Then an episode of Irish comedian Dave Allen, then they'd play an episode of Dr Who in it's entirety. I recall my Father being sleepless one night ans wandering downstairs and plunking down as I watched a Baker episode. About 30 minutes in he states "This is really bad (in reference to the special effects,) I like it!" From that point on he was a Baker fan, only fair as he introduced me to Star Trek when I was a lad. ;-)

Our local PBS station had the Monty Python & Doctor Who combo on Saturday nights also. Earlier in the evening, the local FOX affiliate had a creature feature show. Great times!

That said, I did like the writing in the Eccleston season (1) of the revival earlier this century. I've liked other individual doctors, though, including 2, 3, and 7. Enjoyed Matt Smith's performance although, to my taste, the writing went through the floor during his tenure.

I'm going to show my bias, but I think you would particularly enjoy the Classic run. I would assume the 3rd, 4th, or 5th Doctor would most likely be your favorite but that's not really important. As far as the new series goes, I enjoyed the Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant runs tremendously. I enjoyed the show less and less starting with Matt Smith and wouldn't really care if I missed it. I made no effort at all to watch during the Peter Cipaldi run and I've seen almost none of the Jodie Whitaker run. I'm definitely not an authority on the show at all but the new series seems to lack the charm of the original for me.

I'm definitely not an authority on the show at all but the new series seems to lack the charm of the original for me. I was introduced with Matt Smith. The first season was okay and got my interest, then my interest collapsed hard. Have seen nothing after that. For actor + writing, my favorite in the modern era was Eccleston. Tennant was also generally good in the role and I like many of his episodes a lot, although there are a few that sag for me (that's hardly a major criticism). The Perilous Dreamer I don't know much about your taste in television, but I can imagine you getting into the Third or Fourth Doctor. Really the Fourth (Tom Baker) is the best in my book, although the Second Doctor (Patrick Troughton) is also completely good. The pacing of the show, all the classic episodes I've seen, is extremely different from today's shows. Even more so than a lot of American shows from that period, I think because it was a true serial...even shorter segments that were stitched together to make up mini-movies. Not exactly "episodes" in the modern sense. They use the show, like Star Trek, to explore a lot of wild stuff, totally insane alien planets, but also stuff from recent real history (like England during the war, for example). There's a perspective but (at least in the classic era) it isn't preachy. It's an exploration that took itself seriously while also being funny and also understanding it was little segments of family entertainment. It wasn't too big for its britches. I say that as my impression. I certainly haven't seen everything. But I would like a version of the "question sweater" McCoy wore as the Seventh Doctor. Man, I'm not into playing dress-up, but I think this get-up would suit me! I could see myself running for office like this! Can I count on your vote??

Man, I'm not into playing dress-up, but I think this get-up would suit me! I could see myself running for office like this! Can I count on your vote?? I thought Eccelston was GREAT! I can't argue about Tenant at all. Some of his episodes WERE a drag. I can't really put a finger on what happened during the Smith era but it always felt like it was a big inside joke and every episode seemed to get more and more full of "wink, wink...see what we did there" moments. Throwbacks and callouts to the past are cool but it honestly felt like an overload to me. I always liked McCoy's sweater. That would be a cool look. One thing I didn't like about the new series was The Master. He had the special ability to control the appearance during regenerations so the Richard Delgado and Anthony Ainley portrayals looked very similar. I was hoping they would continue to do that.
