While you all converse, Newson looks again at where the body was, shakes his head, bows in the direction the figures flew, and looks back down at you. "Well, good folk? Shall we discuss what is to be done? One of you is quite a mystery, the others I think I understand. Follow me to my cell. Or shall I put you in a basket?" |

I explain to Finny, Tetanya, and Joshua that Newson wishes to discuss some matters in his cell. He wants to know if we will follow him or if he should grab a basket.
IF everyone agrees THEN we will get in the basket.
IF someone objects THEN we will decide what to do.

"Newson, I think we should discuss what is to be done. Give me a moment to let them know.". I explain to Finny, Tetanya, and Joshua that Newson wishes to discuss some matters in his cell. He wants to know if we will follow him or if he should grab a basket. IF everyone agrees THEN we will get in the basket. IF someone objects THEN we will decide what to do. Misunderstanding a bit, Newson produces a wicker basket, seemingly from nowhere, and gently places you all into it. He picks it up and, barely swinging you, begins carrying you all. Finny looks a bit sick. Tetyana, still wide-eyed, tries to peer over the edge. No one looks directly at Joshua, and no one knows exactly what he is doing. You cannot see well, but you recognize the bumpity-bump of an older man moving down stairs at a speed somewhat greater than his present body would like to allow. Not too long later, you find your "airship" suddenly at rest. Newson's giant hands again pluck you out gently and place you on the hard stone next to the basket. You are in a small (to Newsom) chamber. There is a large window in one wall through which plenty of light comes in. Looking around to get your bearings, you see that unlike the other chamber, nearly everything in here is on the floor. There are dozens of tiny wicker animals, many in good condition, and many other trinkets, little balls of hard clay, and rough gemstones, some nearly as big as your heads. These objects are mostly up against the sides of the room. There is another large basket in here, but you cannot see into it. Clearly there is a cleeping area just under the window, a man's nest of rags. "There. Now. What is your intent, exactly? Sir Ethan, I think you and I can talk first." |

"Uhh...sorry, guys. I don't think we thought that through as well as we should.". I look around at our small crew to make sure everyone is okay.
"Simply put, I signed on with Finny and his people after I lost track of Alla. We were recalled back to the Lady while we were checking out the tear you handed the paper through, but we didn't want to leave without Tetanya. To the best of my knowledge, Finny and his people were guardians of some sort and are on watch for what comes through those slits. I have no such experience with those things. I believe my former companion disappeared through one. Those rings left behind after your mother left appears to be the very same rings she was using. Maybe Joshua came through one of those tears. That's only a guess. ".

"As to the rings..." He holds them up. They look more like a trinket for a jeweler's child at this point than any powerful device. "No one is likely to part with them. It seems my mother was your companion, in her previous life. Which means that you and I have much to talk about, but perhaps, less time than I would like." He looks distant for a moment.
"Alas. Because if this place is not operating as it should, there may be strange things afoot, beyond my strength. I will send you back through to where you came from if you wish. Or if you stay, I cannot promise that you will ever return."

They seem to understand each other, then turn to you. "I'm definitely going," Tetyana says. "And if I go back, I won't get in trouble, because they'll say that's just me." "And I'll go, and if we go back, I can say I had to look after her, because she's crazy." He parts his hands in a gesture of put-on resignation. Neither of them, however, has heard of New Orleans. Tetyana looks at Joshua with a gleam in her eye and she understands that he hails from some even more insane and distant place. Finny sits down with his arms around his knees. He looks deep in thought. [ Since this seems to be a safe place with unhurried discussion, we can simply note that Ethan needs to interpret. Shorthand this as much as you wish.] Newson takes you over to the window when you express your desire to talk. |

I laugh at the responses from Tetanya and Finny before responding. "That makes perfect sense to me. I swore I would help so I'm going back with you. Give me a short time to discuss some things with Newson. It seems that Alla and his mother are the same or may be connected somehow. I'll explain.".
After talking back and forth between the three and interpreting as needed, I tell them I will talk to Newson now.
[Sounds reasonable to me.]

She saved our lives by her actions.". He turns the item over, looking at it as if for the first time. "She said these were key to her power over this place. I never gained the same mastery she had in their use." He carries you over to the tapestry. "See? Here. The man who went underground with her. That was where the beasts were? The imps?" You look again at the figure and notice now a tiny sword depicted on its back. |

They were friendly just...unlike anyone we had come across before. We were looking over the location we were in. Alla was following a burrowing type of creature while I was accompanied by a knightly bird. We were no longer in the line of sight of each other and then she was gone.". "I went through one of the tears into Finny and Tetanya's land in hopes of finding her. I haven't been there long. 4 days maybe? It was not by design at all.". Joshua snaches the small knife in the air, flipps it around (very fancy) He then takes out his huge bowie and does more tricks. He then shows her a simple trick and tries to see if she gets it. |

I explain that Newson can either send us back through the tear we came through OR there are a few projects we can go on for Newson that will take off from here, but the passage back may be difficult. We can go back now or later (if it's still possible) but the choice is ours. When I point out that by the word of our agreement, we succeeded in investigating the tear Finny laughs and says, "Now you are catching on.". I explain that since we have determined there is no threat from this tear then it might prove worthwhile to see what Newson has in mind. I vote for going on these projects... The Semi-Retired Gamer mao [ Yes, works. Thanks.] Finny and Tetyana are into it, as they were. Finny looks almost relieved. You might wonder what he was worried might happen on returning home. Newson blinks at you all, fingering Alla's rings. "Well. That will mean a little work for me. But that is good. First you should sleep and eat. There are a few tasks you might try, since you all seem willing..." He looks at Joshua with interest, then shrugs. "This is my cell. I no longer sleep much, but the day is wearing slowly away. You may sleep in the corner and I can come up with some food for you now, or after you sleep, as you wish. Once you have eaten and rested I will show you what I can show you. I think I can show you, at least."

Joshua looks around and wonders at all he has seen up till now. He fingers his knife in it's scabbard but smiles broadly at the spearker. Nearly undesanding, at least enough to nod in agreement.

As Newson waits to hear from Ethan, Tetyana is still watching Joshua fooling with the knife. She gestures towards the scabbard, clearly intending some kind of question. |

Joshua points to the object and says simply
"Scabberd" and returns the knife in a fancy way. He then pulls it out and in one amazing move, smiles and brings it out again and then takes off his scabbard and hands it to her.

Clearly Joshua has made a friend. She accepts the scabbard, presses it to her person, then gives a little bow. |
