I don't know if the Dark Dungeons video has been discussed around here but I will provide a link to every episode below. I remember the original tract being distributed during the whole Satanic Panic period of the 80s. The tract was actually on the shelf at the church I attended as a young boy. Fortunately, we never had any of the ridiculous book burnings or confiscation of D&D material from any of my friends. For anyone interested, the Dark Dungeons episodes are below.

From what I gather the tract is a collectible these days. Pretty amusing from what I remember. To this day I still can't cast any spells darn it!

I forgot how snooty and uptight the women in the tract appear to be. Karens before Karens?

I forgot how snooty and uptight the women in the tract appear to be. Karens before Karens? Or what was that blonde, curly-haired girl on Little House? Nellie Olsen? That's how they come across.

The funny thing for me is that I lived through that entire time period without ever hearing about any of it. And here is the kicker. I have heard sermon's where D&D was referred to in a positive manner as an example of a principle and a well respected biblical scholar, who was delivering those sermon's is a D&D player. I do not know that he has played recently he is very busy these days, but I have discussed the game with him. I have played D&D with church friends over the years. When I first heard of this stuff, I was like "What?"

Wow, I missed this whole thread. Nice job, guys.
I never saw a paper copy of the tract, but read many Chick tracts when I first found them online. Of course, "Dark Dungeons" was of special interest.
If only players were half so engaged in their characters or the game world! How often does it happen that someone is crunching on a pretzel and missed whatever the ref said?

When I first heard of this stuff, I was like "What?" I think that's the normal response. There is nothing in the game (that I have seen, ever) that made this (fortunately, mostly past) whole anti-gaming phenomenon inevitable. Most Christians and in fact most people I have known know what a "game" is, and failure to know that, or pretending not to know it, seems to be foundational to this whole idea.

In the orientation video where the rpgers come down the hall and the girls say "who are they?" The guy in the middle, Ye.ah I looked that cool at that age. This is great, I would love to see the whole thing. Doesn't look too expensive either.

I'll never forget during the "Satanic Panic" when I believe 700 Club was offering phone intervention services through an 800 number. I went and told my Mom she needed to call them because I was playing "that evil game." She laughed and told me to go away. She saw early on the benefits of socialization and friendships the game allowed me the opportunity to develop and she knew where me and my friends were and what we were doing. And it didn't involve running the streets or getting into other extra-legal trouble. I do have to admit to a few late night games of tag in our village though. Thank God there were no firearm owning paranoiacs BITD in our village or we'd have been shot at hopping fences and running through backyards in the dark.

Wow, really quotable! And the actors are pretty good! I viewed this with genuine interest. "Are you ready to...RPG!!?" I like how when they set up the table, it's all these disembodied hands placing dark, dark objects...sinister-looking minis, walls, tumblers and things...and then a cute little plastic box of six-sided dice that someone's mom got at the game store... One of the youtube comments says "A frat party that collapses into Dungeons and Dragons. How do I get into THAT school?" I love how the evil people in these things have absolutely nothing to do act pleased with themselves.

Oh, and I also like seeing there are way more people observing than playing. Like it's Wimbledon or something!

"A person's character in an RPG is a wish of becoming."
Yes, my wish of becoming is to die twenty times before making it to second level.
These people should see the stuff that goes down in Sunflower. "Welcome to a mysterious evil land where people accept your worn boots in trade for new, mildly strange ones!"

Debbie comes in in tears to find Marcie focused on painting a mini. Who new that painting a small object was a sign of such moral decay!? These people are amazing!
