The Cult of Grax is an evil, snake cult that will be reoccurring throughout parts of the campaign. Think Thulsa Doom and his cult from the 1982 Conan movie as a quick reference. The monster entry will include 3 variations - general member, experienced member, and a priest. It will be common to have large snakes in their temples and there will be a giant snake.
The human Church is commonly referred to as "the fractured faith" because it has split several times in recent years over disagreements in doctrine and practice. Some wish to return to a more primitive form of the church with less pomp and decoration, some believe magic is a gift from THE ONE, others believe magic is an abomination, and more.
There are some remnants of The Old Path and even a resurgence in some areas. This is a pagan form of religion that recognizes a pantheon of gods.
The campaign is human centered with demi-human characters somewhat rare. The Slarn and Anshu are available to PC's but will most likely be a regional option outside of the main campaign. [first impression]
Not much is known about the religions of the other races other than vague information. It is rumored the Dwarves practice a faith very mechanical in nature and the Slarns may be connected to the Cult of Grax somehow. Are these true?
I want to include a monster based on the Cauldron-Born from the Prydain Chronicles. I will probably call them the Battle-Risen or something similar. They will be undead that are always raised in a group of something like 6 warriors slain in battle. This group of six will be linked together and will act in a group. The 6 of them will start off somewhat weak (AC 8, normal weapon damage, etc.) in their stats but as each one of this group gets eliminated, the remaining Battle-Risen will improve. Now, the AC has improved to AC 7. Another one gets eliminated and the AC improves to AC 6 and the remaining 4 get +1 to hit/damage. By the time your characters get to the last one it's a pretty tough nut to crack. I haven't quite worked out the details but that's the general concept.
More to come as the fog leaves my brain...

Initially, I'm going to keep with the original three classes of Fighting Man, Magic User, and Cleric but will most likely have no issues with the Thief character class.
I have no plans to include the additional classes as presented in the OD&D Supplements at the moment. I want to use ideas that were in the "kits with a twist" thread that was posted on here a few months ago. I might call them Specialists or something similar. They won't be "just about the bonuses" but a way to shape your character to a certain path. For instance, a Fighting Man could become a Paladin at higher levels. I'm not quite sure of the details but I think an Ability Score minimum and a slightly higher experience requirement for the benefits. Basically, going with a concept similar to many people could qualify for Fighting Man but not everybody can be a Paladin. I have some tinkering to do so who knows?
I'm digging the ideas that have popped up lately on these forums for cantrips so I suspect I may use them.
I really enjoy the Delving Deeper rules, but I'm tempted to get the OD&D pdfs printed and spiral bound. My curiosity is getting the best of me.
More to come...

Quick idea for magic item...
Open Path Key would have a limited number of uses (probably 1+1d6) but if you insert the key into any lock and wait one round it will open the lock. That would be considered one use. I think adding to the description that there is a small gem in the handle of the key that will light up when the lock is now open might be a good addition. Maybe more difficult locks would take a longer turn?
Details coming soon...

No true count of the membership numbers is known but it is common for the cult to appear to be another peaceful religious organization with an outer court that is a facade to help lure potential new members. Prospects that are accepted into the cult gain access to the inner court areas and the secrets of the cult. The members will attempt to fit in to the general population by not wearing any attire that will make them recognizable as a practitioner. It is common for them to wear a pendant with a snake circling a globe or to have a tattoo of similar design.

Rumors suggest that the higher priests of the Cult have special magical knowledge they have learned from ancient texts. The information in these texts include special spells and magic that can summon or control snakes, magically enchant weapons with a venom-like additive that will poison victims, and other vile effects. I'm probably going to break this Cult of Grax stuff off onto a separate thread soon...

They aim to have a far-reaching influence with small groups spread throughout the immediate area and then farther abroad. The cult has three levels of membership - initiate, acolyte, and priest. Working on the monster entry.

I found this miniature. It's a knockoff version of a Naga but it looked like something for the Cult of Grax to me. I had similar thoughts of the Drider/Lolth relationship but instead of being a punishment for unworthiness, this transformation would be a reward for those cultists that have proven ultimate dedication to Grax. Just a little more and this figure will be complete. Here's a preview.

Your skill is definitely growing. Thanks, The Perilous Dreamer! I appreciate that tremendously!! I can really attribute it to two things - practice AND the wet palette. I *thought* I had gotten a bit better and a bit fast but it's always great to get confirmation from other sources.
