The blog Simulacrum: Exploring OSR Design did a about the history of the OSR that started in Feb 2021 and concluded in mid December. Here is the third post and I will be reading it with you as I just found it but have not read it. I have no doubt, but that it will be vastly superior to the "history" published by the infamous Shannon Applecline. Nevertheless, I expect to disagree with parts of it. and once I read it I will comment and I hope that you do too. A Historical Look at the OSR — Part III

This was another interesting post, and I enjoyed the comments as well. I really have nothing to add on the 2E discussion. I never owned the books until a few months ago. I was biased - unfairly? - right out of the gate. I didn't like the cover art. I didn't like the interior layout. I could spot the "de-Gygaxing" of the game from looking at the books of a friend. They removed the Assassin. They removed the Half-Orc. The DMG was much slimmer than before. In short, I went with my first impression and didn't give it a chance. I'm going to dive into my newly acquired 2E books sometime "soon" to get a better understanding...
