For anyone interested, the World of Darkness documentary is streaming free on tubi. You'll be subject to a few commercial breaks, but it is free. I know it isn't D&D and it isn't exactly old school, but it is another role-playing game. I thought it was interesting to see that D&D and Vampire had a similar rise and fall in their respective timelines. Both games had a meteoric rise to fame, both had tv shows (cartoon for D&D and prime time for Vampire), both games experienced a satanic panic or something similar, both companies pushed out the creator or creative forces behind the game, and more. I never got into Vampire or any of the World of Darkness games. I did get some exposure to Vampire while I was in the Army. At that point in time, Vampire was one of the games being played in the barracks around base. I have browsed some of the books and they do seem interesting. Do any of you have any experience with Vampire: The Masquerade or any World of Darkness games?

Thanks for posting this. Would like to see it.
Played some Mage in high school. Never Vampire, but I read the sourcebook. Had fun at the table with friends for sure. Don't care much for the system as a system, at least as I saw it played. Very BtB but with the appearance of creativity. Hard to describe. But was still fun with friends.
Re: the arc like TSR's, it seems that's very common. Revolutionaries and innovators get pushed out because the people who want to exploit the change don't need more changes.

As pointed out in another thread it seems with RPGs there is always a conflict when creative minds and capitalist minds clash.

It sounds like Rein-Hagen was perceived as living the rock star life while everyone else was doing the grunt work. He went to Hollywood forming White Wolf West for the TV show and he returned to the main office from France after running 3 LARPs. He said everybody turned up from their work & gave him a disgusted look.😬 He was gone soon after.
