I enjoyed the old microgames that Steve Jackson Games put out in the early 80s. Two of my favorites were Car Wars and OGRE. I enjoyed Car Wars but I just kind of dabbled in it. I played it and had the box and maybe two of the small expansions. OGRE was probably my favorite microgame. I had the old rules plus GEV and SHOCKWAVE. I got the big OGRE box from back in the day that had a ton of counters in it. I used to play a ton of OGRE. I haven't played it in years but last Christmas there was a sale at one of my local game stores and I picked up 6th Edition and it's pretty impressive! I missed out on the Designer's Edition KS but I'm gonna order the Reinforcements pack so I will have a close approximation.
Some of my other favorite SJG microgames were Illuminati and Necromancer.
How about you? Did you play Car Wars or OGRE? Did you prefer a different microgame?

They came in pocketboxes which were basically the size of a paperback book. So, they were micro compared to the standard box size for games. The box was something like 6 inches long, 4 inches wide, and half an inch deep. Not exact but that will give you the basic idea.

Ogre was first made by Metagaming. Along with several others. They also did The Fantasy Trip and The Space Gamer magazine.

Also the boxes came along later Yep. Originally, they were in a ziploc bag and then small, flimsy cardboard boxes.
