I know there are many different approaches to having your campaign world info available for reference during a game but I'm interested in hearing how YOU do it.
Are you a minimalist with only the info necessary for what you have planned for the session?
On the other hand, do you have a collection of notes with maps, NPC's, potential plot hooks, etc. collected in a notebook, floppy disk, hard drive, etc.?
Maybe you fall somewhere in between?
When it's all said and done there is no one right way to do it. Different strokes for different folks. What say you?

Being a solo player, I any very minimalist and make extensive use of random tables, so all my prep times goes into the tables, I like to make tables that I don't pull out and use for 6 months.

I am very much a minimalist. I jot down a few words as prompts and have at it. Often what happens is not even related to my thoughts when I wrote those words down.

Do you do them by hand, or do you use something like Inspiration Pad Pro? Then you can start a table and add to it over time. Also, you can include tables as subtables for other tables, etc.

For the one-shot I did last weekend I ended up with three pages of maps (the lower, upper and two underground levels of a coaching inn) adapted from a Dyson Logos map, and when I sat down to do the keying I ended up making twelve pages! That works out to a little less than a half-page per location! And yet, on top of all that I still riffed off the notes, I could have gotten away with one-liners and generic stat blocks. facepalm.jpg
I would like to write a just a little, but something inside me doesn't seem to allow for it. I have passing thoughts and I have to write them down. I actually keep a wiki (linked in my signature) that I put the information on. There's the public bit, and there's a part that's hidden and DM-only that I use for random notes and ideas, plus things that aren't known yet.
I guess it's like Mark Twain said: "I would have written less, but I didn't have time."

I have accumulated a lot of notes and stuff over the years, but I rarely refer to any of it during the game. While I may bring a list of words to the game, sometimes I bring nothing and improv with no prompts other than the feedback from the players. The one thing I try to have available are names, names are the one thing that are sometimes tough to come up with, so I like to have some names written down to use for NPCs. It is the only that I sometimes block on, but everything else, I never block on.

There is all sorts of wiki software, some let you do all sorts of things. I use Dokuwiki, and it lets me set ACLs on the namespace or page level to set permissions on who can create, read or edit pages or images. I think I'll start a new thread on prep so that this one doesn't get (any more) derailed, this is interesting and helpful.

I fall in between, where I have maps and a few potential ideas worked up usually based upon what occurred during the previous session. I then pretty much wing everything else.
