The race of Men is central to the campaign but perhaps unremarkable at a glance. Men distinguish themselves from Elves by having a kind of innate moral cognition. This is not to say that Elves do not have morals, not at all. But in the case of Elves, their morals (which vary from Elf to Elf, especially since the collapse of their longevity and culture) are fairly situational. They are expressed by actions in the situations that arise. For Elves it is rather difficult and pointless to think in terms of moral abstractions. For Men this is much easier, sometimes easier to think in abstractions than to evaluate the situations that actually come about. Men who are adventurers usually start at age 18+1d6. Men are considered, among Elves, notoriously hardy. They can survive injuries that would certainly kill an Elf. In mechanics, this means that Men can go up to the negative value of today's hit points before dying. By the time they hit 0, however, they are unconscious and helpless. Attention from a friendly party is likely to stabilize them and allow them to heal at the rate of 1 HP per day. A lack of attention means they are left to die, which a charater in the negative has a 60% chance of doing over the next day. If death does not occur, healing as described above commences. Men have the unusual ability that to them is trivial but to Elves looks like Detect Character. This gives no knowledge of the mechanical Character system but does give a basic sense of the values. Men have an innate sense of Character, especially in motion. They will be wary of or attracted to a stream, for example, with a different value from the ground it flows through.

Hmm, now that is strange stuff, good but strange.

You're bringing a unique take to all of the races. I dig it!

I have decided that I am truly and forever insane. And that is a good thing, a very good thing.
