I got by w very little of them for 20 years. About the only ones I had were binding wounds and A comprehensive skill list(I might try and recreate the early version of the skill system) although since I play at such a low level I should have given wizs more love. I also came to love the Barbarian class from the White Dwarf, It was so awesome that C&T uses it.
So i realize that the average old schooler house rules the heck out of things but I think I want to go back to my old ways.

I have a lot of house rules, but it does not come from writing them out, it comes from running the game and just making rulings on the fly. When the party spent years on ship board, I did not use the rules in the books at all, I did not even look at them. I winged the whole thing, the players were happy because combat went fast and though they go some lumps they won, fairly IMO.

Well yeah, I had to write them out for the play by post. Most of them completely new for the play by post. In game it is 3d6 in order, buy equipment let's game. Now if someone wants to play a dragon, which they did a few years back, OK now I have to work out how that works. But standard races and classes, spend five minutes creating your character and game on.

In my opinion there is no ironclad reason to have a bunch of house rules written out or not written out, it's whatever works for you and your table.
Again, in my opinion the players should need to know very little about the system so apart from what they need to know ("Sleep" doesn't exist or some such) it's all just about your prep or lack of prep.
I do like to read about house rules, but that's a different story.

I have found for the play by post I need to write more things down, hoping I can restart it before too much longer, and I am doing a lot of experimenting and play testing with the pbp too.

I've always been a fan of house rules. I think they help define your style of game.

Having read through a lot of your ideas, I cannot fathom the idea that you ever had only a few house rules.
