The Hickory NutThe nut has a tiny hinge, not worked in any metal but a part of the shell itself, that allows you to open and close it smootly. Inside, the very nutmeat has the form of two beautiful and detailed dolls, clearly children although more elongated and slender than any healthy child. They are clothed, but not in any kind of clothing that you know. [nut may be found anywhere] The Hickory TreeThe height of ten men, the tree spreads its branches out wide. Looking closer, you see that the husks of many nuts are splitting open. If you peel the husk back, you find strange hinged nuts inside. Each holds a unique form of nutmeat, a tiny sculpture whose like you have never seen.
A town where the people are like grains of sand.
A smiling moon.
Hands clasped together.
A hickory tree.
Your own face, eyes closed and at peace.

The Old YewWho knows how far this yew's roots spread underground? It is so ancient that it had to have been here for centuries before the first of the graves that surround it. The oldest gravestones are some ninety feet away from the tree, with the more newly dead in rings further out.
Those who approach the trunk at night hear many voices: some whispering, some shouting, but all very quiet. Those who spend the night in the hollow inside the tree may have any number of unusual experiences. Frightening, enlightening, informative about the area and those who have lived here.

World TreeEach plane where beings dwell is flat and not very deep. For most purposes, the ground is solid enough, but dropping very large objects can cause a visible local ripple. The general location of the edges of one's plane is known to all intelligent beings by the end of their basic socialization period (the ability to have a reciprocal conversation), even if they have never travelled anywhere near those edges. Looking up during the daytime does reveal the "bottom" of the next plane floating high, high above. Planes alternate directions of spin, so one can observe the large features on the distant plane slowly changing: the basin of a sea, the underside of a mountain range. Due to some unknown feature of the world, looking up at night shows only a "sky" full of stars. The brightest of these stars has an apparent magnitude of -2.3, significantly brighter than Sirius, the brightest star in our night sky. There are, however, no "wandering stars" (planets) to be seen. Light during the day comes from an undefinable source, always in the same direction. Only the intensity changes throughout the day, not the direction. Strange as it seems, it is possible to crouch down and peer over the edge. Peering down off the edge, to which you have never been, shows the surface of the plane below, turning in the same direction as the plane above. The air here has a peculiar quality. You feel a touch of resistable pressure coming at you from outside the edge.

hengest This is all very good. Your take on the World Tree is awesome. I have done and seen many versions of this but this rivals the best. Exalt.

The Maple StandThe maple stump stands not far from the edge of the forest in an area that might have had a copse but has little other than some oddly cut trees. One who stands on the maple stump will find that his feet sink a bit into the wood, and that tendrils from the bark around the stump grow quickly upward, forming a latticework that encages you in no time. The uneven bars of the cage thicken as the entire stem of the tree forms around and above you, extending outward into branches. When the outline of the tree is complete but naked, it flashes through its spring-initial yearly cycle, producing buds, leaves, flowers, and seeds in the space of perhaps twenty eyeblinks. The leaves change and fall to the ground around the tree. It seems to contract around you for a moment, and then your cage begins to thicken again, filling in the space around your body rather speedily. You...
[choose one]
1) ...hear the unfamiliar sounds of rapid plant growth as it closes in around you, hugging every part of your body. Your clothes and gear begin to feel loosened and weightless, as if someone is sliding them off you. The last of the light is blocked and you feel the wood grip all your skin at once.
2) ...sense movement again, almost your own movement. As your vision fades you feel that your awareness is extended in a new and indescribable manner, as if you took a breath so deep that your lungs extended high into the air and under the ground.
