In the heyday of Mysantia, I regularly had 12-15 players that I handled w no prob. Now I prefer exactly 4. At a con w an assistant I had a 20 player Call of Cthulhu LARP (My fav run of all time) How about you?

Our old group back in the day was always somewhere between 4 to 6 players. I don't recall anything higher.

In college we started with a referee and twelve players, that gradually grew to 16-20 almost every game and we had 21-29/30 players on occasion. I could not do that many now, between vision and hearing changes, twelve or so is my limit now. But even the 29/30 game with no assistant I had no problem at all and Combat ran approximately five times faster than the 5E game I am in with four players.

Nine (9) has been about my max. On a good night (and we play at least 1 - 2 nights a week) I host 7 on average.

Wow, I've heard this before but I come away in wonder every time. That is amazing, being able to sustain this.

You either love me or hate me, just about no in between. Life is like that for me. This only happened when my players were actively recruiting, they stopped a long time ago. On a side note I had had both an asst. dm and a secretary to wrangle players, no more.

I think 8 players was my biggest group ever.
But I have a campaign going currently, using my 1e homebrew rules, which has 7 regular players. So I've gotten used to a larger table. My ideal table is 3-4 players plus 1 DM. NPC henchmen or multiple PCs when extra muscle is needed.
I'm also having fun in my 1-on-1 campaign with my wife (detailed in separate thread). She runs one primary PC and currently has 2 additional PC companions.

We played Star Trek from cadet to Fed Capt. then even Klingon Admiral.
