The Dragons in AiF are a big deal. The Book of Creatures & Treasure (BoCT) is 49 pages, the Creatures portion is 31 pages, and the Dragon generation system is 9 pages in length. That's basically one-third of the entire creature section. The Referee is advised to generate and place Dragons before starting the campaign. Each Dragon is described with the following characteristics:
Form Age Size Sex Intelligence Egotism Index Greed Index Personality Index Alignment Breath Value Magic Rating Interests Hoard
(more info later...)

A Dragons' form includes details about the head, body, and extremities. The head isn't limited to just the traditional appearance but also includes horned ram and elephant head among the options. The body can be several color variations along with armored variations. The extremities include combinations with shelled belly, forked tail, eagles rear legs, and others.
For every 30 campaign years, a Dragon increases one age grade.
Size and Age are used together to determine Hit Points.
Female Dragons are larger than males. This section includes rules on Dragon mating, eggs, and hatchlings.
The minimum intelligence among Dragons is among top tier of Humans and can go much higher.
Egotism determines to what degree a Dragons' judgement and relations with others.
Greed reflects the Dragon's attitude about wealth and acquisition.
All Dragons have 3 Personality Traits such as Witty, Conniving, and Honest among a larger list of options.
Numeric modifiers from Egotism, Greed, and the Personality Traits will assist in determining Alignment.
A Dragons breath weapon is always fire shot out in a cone. Age modifies the range of attack while size determines the potency.
Dragon magic is a natural power of a Dragon due to them being capable of drawing magic directly from the Alignment's source. In contrast, a Human only works magic by making pacts with other powers; simply put, a human sorcerer is an instrument in the process while the Dragon is an actual force in the process.
A Dragons worldly interests may include magic, crafts, histories, or other options.
A Dragon's Hoard consists of gold, silver, jewels, books. Magic items, etc. and will also include a special concentration that reflects the interests of the Dragon.
The final part of this section includes information on Dragon Lairs.

This calls to my mind the stories of Pern.
