Part of a Soviet medical battalion serving in the Pinsk Marshes in 1944 is swept up by a moving portal and transported to similar terrain in a 5.7 world (see this thread for details). Game time is approximately 105 years later, so that the portal event is just outside of living memory, at least for humans. Weapons and medical supplies, while they lasted, allowed the soldiers (as well as female doctors and nurses) to establish themselves moderately well, despite complete disorientation. The Soviets have interbred with the locals for several generations, but several villages of "purer blood" retain a greater degree of cultural self-definition. They call themselves the "Isanbata" and consider that they were rewarded for their military service elsewhere: their enemies were removed from the world and they themselves were brought, as they slept, to this place where warfare is less than all-consuming.

I like it, this has some real possibilities, I think this would be a lot of fun to game in.

hengest any further thoughts on this? I had completely forgotten about this. Completely. Some questions to be answered: - Are they immune to magic, or are the purer-blooded people now living immune to or unable to use magic?
- Who did they marry with, and when?
- Warfare is less than all-consuming, but what are the conflicts at present, if there are any?
- Was anyone else swept up by such a portal? Or could they be at present in game-time?
- What is their culture like?
- Is there any cargo-cult element (have they imitated any of the artifacts that they brought with them, do they have crude nonfunctional rifles)?
- Do they have any original artifacts left?
- What is their general appearance like now?
- Did they interpret what they encountered here in terms of their own cultural background? If so, give details.

Great questions. Also think about how things change depending on who gets swept up and brought to this(or a different) world? What changes result from changing the number of the world?

What changes result from changing the number of the world?Yeah, and this question reminds me that one would need to decide now people are affected (if at all) by being transported across "values." A lot to think about there, and an easy method for generating tons of distinct settings, kingdoms, whatever.

I still cannot wrap my head around writing for it, but I love it. I think that whole thing is awesome.

Some more questions to think about: - are they culturally homogenous now? Or have they split over something? Or are there factions forming now for some reason?
- What if they had a single very long-lived original member still with them? What if this person held a leadership role? How would that person's memories inform their undrestanding of present events? There were teenagers and even children with the partisans and even sometimes with regular units, so if we stick with the 105-year gap between then and now, a 15-year-old then would now be 120, an elder who has been old for generations, but well within the realm of extreme longevity.
- How do they account for their cultural origin? What is their folk memory of the event that brought them here?
- What if (this changes the original parameters a bit) they found themselves on arrival in the middle of local warfare and their training and technology allowed them to destroy / cow one of the warring factions?
